The Office: 1/18

“I miss Dwight. OK, universe, you win.”

Loved that “Lift Us Up Where We Belong” was playing in Staples when Michael went to get Dwight.

I felt bad for Karen. I hope they’re not over. I like the character.

I think we’re soon going to be back to the Scranton office only – the Stamford branch is leaving one-by-one.

I thought Angela’s apology to Oscar was actually pretty touching.

I’m kind of disappointed that Dwight is back so soon. I really wanted to see Angela torture Andy.

I think Karen will probably stay for a while, but Andy’s a goner. I predict he’ll be gone within two episodes.

I also think that Angela is reforming, actually trying to accept Oscar, even though it’s obviously hard for her. Also, Dwight and Angela’s relationship should be out in the open soon, by the looks of things. And Dwight will soon be less of a pushover. But who will do Michael’s laundry?

Michael was actually a good manager tonight! This is pretty much a first, I think. He admitted a mistake, apologized for it, and made it right. And he didn’t tell a single joke in the process.

The best part of tonight was Jim’s face when Andy punched the wall. This was one of Jim’s best pranks ever. When he grabbed the phone, I thought that he was going to change the ringtone or something lame like that. Then when he climbed onto the counter and opened the ceiling tile, the prank reached epic proportions.

For an episode that was ostensibly about Oscar, we didn’t see too much of him.

I’m about to go get some lemoñade and celebrate my Mexicanity while watching the “producer’s cut” on nbc.com. Adios!

From what happened, I’d not expected to see him after tonight.

I do feel for Karen, though.

I’ve noticed all this season that Ryan has become a total dick. Too bad, I like him. Or liked him, anyways.

The Andy character is becoming a complete freak, with no traits that anyone can even remotely relate to. Nobody acts that frickin’ weird in an office setting. It is time for Ed Helms to go.

Now, I thought that Karen would be gone within 2 eps, but that Andy is going to have some more conflicts with Dwight and Michael until we get a spectacular flame-out. Karen has dignity and won’t stay around to watch Jim pine over Pam, whereas Andy? The man has no clue.

Yep – Ryan’s a total dick now. Since he became a real employee, he’s gotten too big for his britches, and he’s still totally green, especially when it comes to sales.

And as to his newfound dickness, perhaps he even realizes it. This was a great exchange:

Jim: Hey, Ryan. Do you wanna pull a prank on Andy?
Ryan: Not right now. But ask me again ten years ago.
Jim: I liked you better as The Temp.
Ryan: Me, too.

He’s “trapped” in a job he never wanted, a relationship with a person he can’t stand, both of which are keeping him from going to business school, and he’s too afraid of confrontation to quit either. It’s a recipe for a quick trip to Bitter Land.

Michael, about Andy: “I don’t understand how someone could have so little self-awareness.”

Brilliant line. Perfect, coming from Michael.

His increasingly uncomfortable reactions to Andy’s schtick are perfect. His whole demeanor and facial expressions. (And of course, I’m sure he doesn’t realize that this is how people so often react to him – but Andy is at least 3 times worse).

Some other good Michael lines:

“And I think we should celebrate Oscar’s Mexicanity. So, Phyllis, I want you to go find firecrackers… and… a chihuahua…”

Michael: “You should come back. Please.”
Dwight: “I don’t want to do your laundry anymore.”
Michael: “We can… talk about that.”

“I don’t want somebody sucking up to me because they think I am going to help their career. I want them sucking up to me because they genuinely love me.”

Other fun stuff…
Phyllis: “Dwight had a big personality, and I have a big personality. And a lot of times when two people like that get together, it can be explosive.”

Jim: “Would you like to pull a prank on Andy?”
Pam: “Um, I’m kind of in the middle… yes, please!”

Michael handing Dwight the broom for the pinata. Kevin starting to put the blindfold on. Dwight: “No no no no. I don’t need it.”

I recommend the producer’s cut. Some funny scenes were cut from the tv version.

Yeah, I liked that line too.

I also liked the “Congratulations, universe; you win!” part. I never thought I’d end up feeling so sympathetic to Dwight and so happy to see his return. Bravo to the writers for that.

I can’t wait to see how they handle the Karen storyline now that she knows the truth about Pam. I don’t think she will leave quietly considering that she moved there mostly to be with him.

I suspect that Ed Helms just wasn’t able to play his part with the sort of nuance and pinache that the other actors do. I suspect a revolt by the writers that forced the producers to order him written out.

Au contraire, my friend. In the world of marine architecture there are many, many people that go much further in weirdness than anything Andy has demonstrated. Especially in New Orleans. We even had a guy pull a nearly similar freakout when someone hid their annoying musical Christmas card in the overhead tiles and left it open to play until the battery ran out. Another guy pushed the window air conditioning unit out of a third story window, without bothering to check if anyone was beneath it, because he was pissed at people turning it up after he turned it down. The Andys of the world exist. I think they may simply be concentrated in engineering firms…

Ooh, I’m glad to see the Producer’s cut had some of that classic Creed weirdness. :slight_smile:You’re not real, man”.

“I don’t like them to suck up to further their careers. I like them to suck up because they actually like me.” (or something like that). Ya gotta love Michael.

I think Karen might go over to the dark side. I dunno…I just have a feeling.

That was a great episode. There were so many great lines. But one of my favorite parts was really subtle. When Dwight was making a big show of taking off his Staples shirt on his way out the door. They showed the dispaly on the security camera monitor and when he ripped off his shirt, the cashier never looked up from helping a customer check out. He just kept scanning the merchandise.

That’s one of the many reasons I love this show. You can watch it multiple times and catch something different each time.

And I agree, the look on Jim’s face when Andy punched the wall was great. It was a combination of amusement and fear. His reaction shots are getting better.

I know a lot of you like Karen (I like her too), but I love when Jim and Pam are together. It feels more natural and they have so much fun.

Sorry for the double post, but I had to add another great Michael line. When he was talking about Andy and hiding behind his office door, he said “I don’t know how someone can have so little self-awareness.”

I thought Dwight’s job search was hilarious.

The three-part resume: profession, athletic and special skills, Dwight Shrute trivia

Three words: hard working, alpha male, jackhammer, merciless, insatiable

I think Andy was being especially obnoxious because he was on some kind of high after his “triumph” over Dwight. He’s always been clueless and annoying, but he just ramped it up because he figured he was unstoppable.
I loved this exchange:

Kevin: How was your “gaycation”?

Oscar: Very funny.

Kevin: I thought that up like 2 seconds after you left!
Dwight’s Staples co-worker was funny, too: “I hate him, and his great big head, and his beady little eyes. And that’s all I have to say on that subject.”
