The Office 1/26

Disagree. All that was said was that it was something that stank badly and required the carpet to be removed. A turd would not require that extensive a remedy. People deal with dog poop on a regular basis without replacing carpet.

And, if it was never stated (as you say), that makes it a McGuffin by definition.

Don’t you just love dumb arguments?

That’s the whole point. Of course Michael didn’t need his carpet replaced.

I thought one of the interviews with Oscar or Ryan had them mentioning ‘taking a dump’. How did he describe it to Truck?
Hugh Jass - Mindy Kaling (Kelly) is one of the writers on the show, along with BJ Novak (Ryan); they’re really doing a great job.

Yeah I believe someone mentioned taking a dump on the floor in passing.

And I loved how Michael was pissy about who could do such a thing to him, but once he realized it was Packard (which I SO called at the beginning of the episode), he was laughing about it.

The “panty raid” on accounting was hilarious as well.

Well, except that it was made extremely clear, beyond question, that it was in fact a pile of feces. The fact that they found clever, roundabout ways to make that unquestionably clear doesn’t actually transmogrify it from a pile of shit into a maguffin.

Agree 100%. It made his day.

I think the phone call at the end really indicated it was feces.

Packer: Did you get my package?
Michael: Was it large?
Packer: I’d say it was rather large.

It had to be feces.

Yeah, well at least I misspelled it, which is more than you can say. . .d’oh!

It had to be feces. It was something common enough that it had happened to the previous boss as well.

I don’t recall any specific reference to taking a dump, but the hints were too strong for it to be anything else.

Packer probably did that one too.

I got the impression that it might have been Michael.

Unless there was something said to the contrary, it makes sense.

He was sad that one of his employees hated him enough to do that. Maybe this was aggravated by the fact that he knew he did it himself because he hated the boss as well.

I could be missing something that contradicts the theory… It is more likely Packer…

Michael probably did it to Truck, and Packer knew this. It was kind of an “in joke” then, with Packer giving Michael a taste of his own. No? Maybe?

The problem with that theory is that Michael is, well, a pussy – all talk and no action, unless the victim is a subordinate who cannot fight back.

Packer, on the other hand, just doesn’t give a shit.

Recall Michael’s retelling of how he and Packer met two hot chicks at some salesman’s conference, took them back to the hotel…and Packer did them both.

And that time, as a joke…he did every woman in the office…

My impression was that he was geeked that she was interested enough in him to have called so many times … maybe not romantically but that the palling around would at least continue.

I just rewatched it. To add to the evidence that it is indeed feces, Michael said, “I can’t believe a pipe burst and left that there!” Of course someone said “it was no burst pipe,” but did not contradict the assumption that “that” was, ya know, something that might be the contents of office plumbing.

I nominate, “Somebody making soup” as the most disgusting sitcom line ever. :stuck_out_tongue:

I liked Ryan’s assessment of Kelly: “It depends if you like a little junk in - [looks at camera] uh, yeah she’s cool.”

We paused that scene to read the newsletter. (For some reason, I always do that.) It was pretty funny. The first paragraph was semi-legit, thanking contributors and so forth, but at the end, it said “useless” when it meant “useful”. And then the second paragraph blurted out everything. I’ll paraphrase to avoid copyright issues:

This is all made up crap. If you thought we’d actually bother to type out something meaningful, then you don’t have any concept of how long it takes to put a television show together. As a matter of fact, we don’t even have to use real English words. Maybe we’ll say hasphap or mellowtoes or hegmeffel. What do you care? Thanks to all who contributed…

It began to recycle. Cool.

My favorite moment: They’re interviewing Michael about the awful smell, and he says a few words, then breaks off and gets up, saying, “Good GRIEF that smells terrible!” or some such.

And then the camera pans back quickly for just a moment before the cut, showing that they had a mike on him but were actually filming through the window, from outside the foul-smelling office. The cameraman doesn’t want to smell it either.

It’s the little touches like that that make the show for me.

Google Ads seem to agree that it was a rectum product. They are pimping “fart machines”!

That was hilarious! I had to rewind it just to make sure I saw what I thought I saw with the cameraman.
