The Office--Feb 9, 2006

Pam looked incredible! Discuss.

I love Kelly. She is the most interesting non-main cast character.

Stanely had no lines in this one.

What is up with Phyllis? Is that guy who sent her stuff a boyfiend/husband?

I love Dwight…“You and Jan…screwed.”

Brilliant!

Michael does another ‘good guy’ thing and spares the boss. Times like those are when you see why Michael is the head of the Scranton branch (he can be very good when he has to). Though the best was after the kiss, and Michael signaled to the camera! LOL!

All the Phyllis gifts were hilarious as well. The big bear was gut bustingly funny! I liked how her boyfriend (husband?) wrote his name and his company on the card, just like he introduced himself in person earlier this season.

And Kelly and Ryan just has potential for comedy GOLD! Jim trying to get away was priceless!

It was great when he asked Pam what to get and then when he got what he (thought he) needed, he said “Shut Up” and left the room. Pam’s look to the camera after that was hilarious!

Michael’s presentation.

I don’t think my jaw actually hit the floor, but it was pretty close.

That’s Bob Vance, Vance Refrigeration.

Yes, another great episode. I loved the detail when Michael was gettting ready for his trip, with Dwight’s help. Michael says, “I’m going to New York,” and Dwight hands him a passport, which he packs without comment.

And Phyllis’s giant stuffed bear. As it arrives, one of the characters (don’t recall his name; the guy at right in this photo) says, “Man, that’s bigger than me!”

Delivery guy: “No it’s not, dude.”

“A Michael Scott Joint.”

Pam always looks fantastic.

I liked Dwight’s characterization of the animal passion of his relationship – and I loved the way the key went over. Well played, sir! (And thanks Pam. Shut up!)

“New York is Scranton on acid.” Bwaha!

I’ve missed a few episodes, but, apart from the other time that he impressed Jan, has he ever really been shown to shine?

Anyway, I had low expectations, what with it being a Valentine’s day episode and all – but I really should have had a little faith. One of the best!

I laughed my ass off when it happened. Then I laughed my ass off again when this post reminded me of it. That was brilliant.

Loved the Steve Martin/Robin Williams faces on the shirttail-screen as well.

I thought that this episode was one of the weaker ones. The plot barely advanced at all and only a couple of laugh out loud moments.

Ryan sure set himself up for some pain. Kelly is obsessed.

The plot is supposed to advance? This isn’t “Lost”.

I thought it was hilariously funny. Especially when Michael arrives in New York and wants to go get a genuine slice and ends up at Sbarro.

I love that Sbarro is an authentic new york pizza place and Michael’s favorite to hit when he’s in town… I’m pretty sure the Scranton mall would have a Sbarro.

I LOVED that this episode didn’t advance the “plot” that much. If you go with the idea that Pam and Jim are the “plot”. This advanced the Cut-backs/Michael and Jan story quite a bit.

It provides a logical reason why the Scranton branch won’t get shut down by showing that another branch has an even worse manager… and Jan might actually go to bat for Michael now.
The other manager was played by one of the regulars on Whose Line wasn’t it? I assume if they do the blended branches story, he’d be the rival manager who gets the promotion.

I laughed ridiculously hard at some points.

When Jim invited Kelly to the poker game I immediately thought Jim and Kelly would hook up which would set things back with Pam quite a bit… but when she immediately asked if she could invite Ryan… I almost peed myself.
And that line where Kelly asked Ryan to go out that night and Jim says “No. Not while I’m here.” I think I did pee myself.

I loved Meredith getting palstered at work and no one noticing that she’s passed out at her desk… Alcoholism is funny. Who knew?

I made 50 bucks betting that Jim wouldn’t get Pam anything.

Dude, “advancing plots” are antithetical to the concept of the sitcom. Now, this is not your average sitcom, but still, nowhere is there any rule about “advancing plots.” Go watch you some Buffy or some NYPD Blue if you need your plot advanced! One of the nice things about The Office is you don’t have to take your work home with you; it’s over when it’s over.

But.

“A Michael Scott Joint” made me pee a little bit. And Roy thinking his dick was gonna suffice as a Valentine’s gift. The. Horror.

And anyway, as far as plot advancement? You don’t think Jan’s gonna regret that kiss more than she’s ever regretted anything in her life? She’s gonna wish she’d killed herself right before that kiss. Now THAT’S some plot advancement.

I don’t know. It could work out fine for them. If you take Michael out of the context of the office, he’s not actually that bad. I mean, obviously, he’s an idiot – but he’s got a sort of naive charm.

It’s not terribly unlikely that Corporate might take Michael out of the context of the office in a permanent way – and Michael seems like a guy that the road naturally rises to meet. He’ll be alright. I can totally see him ending up with a sweetheart deal as one of those mythical executives that really doesn’t do anything, for another company. I could totally see him and Jan together when the series wraps, as content as anyone else.

No, I’m not drunk.

“GreatScott!”

“New York! The city that was so good they named it twice! (…the other one is Manhattan)”

Loved the manager who wasn’t prepared… didn’t know he should make a financial presentation. Hopefully he gets canned and Michael takes him in.

Can someone explain A Michael Scott Joint?

I’m thinking he meant Joint Production, but somehow that second half didn’t appear in the screen?

There’s also the passing reference to someone’s brownies…

And it was in Comic Sans. Of course Michael would use Comic Sans.

Liberal, IIRC, ‘A … Joint’ is in reference to Spike Lee. Michael thinks he’s being hip and cool by naming his film the way Spike Lee does.
