The Office 10/21

He was shown in just this single episode to be

  1. A rival of Jim and Dwight
  2. Someone to whom Merideth can lust over
  3. Someone Pam’s dated and Jim can be jealous of

There’s no way they set all that up, give him a spot inside the office with that much protest, and then never have him be seen again. No possible way.
He’d be like the unfired Chekov’s gun, man. You just gotta give him a squeeze.
Oh and the IMDB credits him with at least one more episode, so there’s that.

Excellent. Certainly has more promise than a lot of what’s happened on this show over the last few seasons, IMO.

“That’s why I brought you to the Penis Museum, where tickets are a thousand dollars!”

I’m actually kind of surprised he took the job, actually, considering how obviously dysfunctional D-M is.

I guess the siren song of “more money” was too much to resist.

I thought it was pretty funny. The Meredith sting portion was over the top, but it had some great bits. Like her getting both Oscar AND Ryan to be non English speaking laborers. And, Ryan deciding Stark Enterprises was a bad choice, but Google was. The fact that Dwight quickly turned off his rant just because it was 5 o’clock was pretty funny.

I had no idea there was going to be a guest star this episode. He’s a pretty awesome actor, so I think it is pretty exciting that there is a chance he will be on for more than one episode. At first it seemed like it was just going to be a quick cameo, but then when Michael really went after him it was clear more was involved. I like that he didn’t just go after him because of jealousy. There was a rational basis to it. And, yeah, Michael’s get the hell out of my office if you don’t have a real complaint has to be one of the most competent managerial things he has done over the course of the entire series.

Andy’s subplot was pretty funny. But, it would have made a lot more sense if he hadn’t just starred in a community play like two episodes before. I guess he isn’t making money off of it, but still. Anyway. I did like the interaction about his alumni magazine with Phylis. “I showed you his picture on Facebook!”

So, Pam apparently used to date this dude. IIRC, however, Pam was engaged to Roy before Jim, and Pam and Roy had been a couple since high school. Continuity error?

There was a period between Pam’s breakup with Roy and her taking up with Jim. Remember when Jim was living in Connecticut?

Oh, right, I forgot about that…:smack:

This was Michael showing his managerial skills again, his point of “think how much better you would be selling our stuff with our prices” makes a whole lot of sense. Plus being a traveling salesman meant he wouldn’t have to deal with the dysfunctional people so much.

Someone has to replace Michael as branch manager at the end of the season - might as well be a new guy with some actual skills and competence and leadership qualities - wait, what am I thinking - that could never happen at Dunder-Mifflin. Or could it?

While he looked and sounded vaguely familiar, neither my spouse nor I recognized him at all and had to wait for the credits. And I’ve watched Deadwood twice!

Timothy Olyphant is the star of his own show on FX called Justified. He’s not available to become a regular on The Office.

They should get Ian McShane and have him play a maniacal and Machiavellian hardass then.

Suddenly I want to make a youtube mash-up of Al Swearengen cursing out Office employees, yelling at them about the “bags of shit” they’ve made him hold.

Must be opposite day for NBC Thursday comedy managers. Inept Michael Scott handles something well and Outsourced’s Todd Dempsey, who is supposed to be a good at managing, doesn’t do a thing about the productivity disrupting fish monger.

I wanted Meredith’s seduction scene to play out. Instead of sending coworkers in to interfere, Michael, Dwight, and Jim would be shown gaping in horror at the screen as we hear the goings-on…

I liked the comment about how he looked like Josh Duhmel, because the first time I ever saw Olyphant in anything, I mistook him for Duhmel.
