Is it just me, or did Michael show real competence in hiring that new guy away from his competitor? Good move for him. I wonder if, this season, they’re going to let Micheal grow into an actual mature adult and competent manager to let him sign off from the show on a high note.
I thought the “stinger” starring Meredith was a over the top but kinda funny. The B-story, though, with Andy’s band, was kind of lame.
I found parts of it funny. And overall I thought the episode was enjoyable. But I kept watching it thinking “This show has had a really great run and I’ve really enjoyed it, but it’s past its prime. Just let it go gracefully at the end of this season rather than try to hang on for a few more years without Steve Carell.”
Why are they calling themselves Dunder Mifflin again? I watch every episode but don’t exactly study it closely. I don`t recall Sabre ever retaining the Dunder Mifflin brand. Have they really done that consistently? I guess the only thing I distinctly remember is the joke about pronouncing Sabre, but I thought they switched everything and dropped Dunder Mifflin.
I was amazed and delighted with Michael’s actual competence in this episode. Not just by hiring the evil salesman, but by pointedly telling Dwight and Jim that “I’m not going to turn a guy away away because you feel threatened.”
I thought this was one of the best episodes in the past 2 or 3 seasons. I can’t remember the last time I laughed so much at it. And Timothy Olyphant!!! I had no trouble believing the client would choose him over Michael’s offers of weekend delivery and getting it at cost because oh my god. Also, it’s nice seeing him play a fairly pleasant guy, not somebody who’s likely to rip your head off.
In the cold open, when Oscar says, “I can’t wait to get up in the morning,” Pam says, “oookay,” as if Oscar had said something inappropriate. What was the deal with that?
And it took me like three viewings to figure out that Kelly was saying “I’m on Sheryl Crow’s side on that.” I had no idea what she was saying.
Unless this is supposed to be the introduction of a multi-episode story arc, I think we’ll rarely if ever see him again. How many times have we seen Packer?
I wouldn’t be shocked if it was a one-off. The tag at the end about remembering that D-M already has a traveling salesman makes writing Corrdray out simple.
Not that I wouldn’t like to see a multi-arc with the sales staff trying to cope with an actual effective and sane salesman.
I think we’ll see him more than Packer. At least I think we’ll see him here and there, (at least this season). I wasn’t a fan of his goofy grin. Of course on some message boards he’s hated by “Jam fans”. If Jim get’s a hangnail, people will complain.
