The Office 11/20 "Frame Toby"

I don’t have much time, but, astonishingly, there isn’t a thread yet. So I figure I’ll just start it and let others discuss for now.

No! No! Please God No!!!

Michael’s reaction to Toby’s return was–predictably–over the top, as was the whole drug bust frame job. I didn’t care for that.

The writers’ “gotcha” tactic with the Jim and Pam storyline is played out now: “Hey look everyone! This is going to cause a huge rift–maybe a break-up–between Jim and Pam! Really! We mean it this time! Wait–Just kidding! It actually brought them closer together!”

Of course, they’re probably just setting us up to be surprised for the episode where Jim and Pam really do break up.

I liked Michael’s ploy to get Toby fired for sexual harrassment–too bad Pam read the letter.

Loved Creed with the camera crew in the conference room. “Just pretend we’re talking until the police leave.”

“The end justifies the mean.”

I thought it was a good episode. I laughed several times.

Pam continues to irritate me, although not as much when she’s in the office. I just wish they’d show her trying to please Jim for once, instead of him always trying to find ways to make her happy.

“…and I framed a bear for eating out of the garbage.”?

They’re losing me.

Michael should’ve been fired and arrested. Kelly needs a smack in the head. Ryan needs a good cock-punching.

I can’t believe I’m starting to dislike the show, but I am. I’m not lost, but on the way…

Joe

There were some things in this episode I thought were mildly amusing – Creed’s reaction when he saw the cops, Jim “inching away” while Pam was prattling on, but as a whole, I think it was a little uneven. The microwave storyline just got dropped without any resolution (I think it was Ryan who made the mess), Ryan’s decision to go to Thailand came out of the blue, Michael getting burned with the caprese salad once again took the character slightly out of the realm of believability (though it was a nice callback to the Vance Refrigeration guys since they were the ones responsible for the roach in the parking lot way back when), and the Jim/Pam house buying story was lame and predictable and not particularly funny.

I think the whole JAM thing has pretty much jumped the shark. I agree with what Tangent said that every episode has been about throwing in false obstacles to make the audience think their relationship is in trouble only to turn it all warm and rosy at the end.

Also, it was kind of weird to see a character who’s not particularly well-heeled (A job like Jim’s would pay what – 50-60K a year?) go out and buy a house by himself with the lending market as comatose as it is right now.

Jim and Pam have become the least interesting part of the show. I think the show might just be close to having run its course. They’ve done about everything with the characters they can do. Maybe they should end it. There’s something to be said about the British practice of ending series while they’re still strong instead of letting them slowly become moribund self-caricatures.

I think I’m with you. I mean, how many different ways did Michael jeopardize his job this week? And not only in the typical ways that he usually does; buying drugs from the warehouse workers during the work day on company property? Blatantly trying to get Toby to hit him? It was almost like his driving into the lake… but worse.

I saw the reruns on TBS the other night (“The Injury” and “The Secret”), and I forgot exactly how funny this show can be. Tonight’s episode, while it had some funny lines, couldn’t compare to those two. That being said, I did think it was really funny how Dwight’s perfect crime involved stealing a Tiffany’s chandelier, running for the rest of his life, but never actually pawning the chandelier. That was cute.

What does Jim say to Pam at the end when she asks him about the clown?

It was a pretty weak episode. I can’t believe that Pam loved the house.

“The Injury” had me laughing out loud. I’m totally loving this show right now. My husband and I had never watched it (being loyal to the British verion) until about 3 weeks ago. Now we can’t get enough of it and I’ve been DVRing all the ones on TBS that I can find.

I agree with this 100%. This is the exact thing I told my wife last night.

And I know Toby’s not the greatest HR rep in the world, but even he would’ve turned Michael in to corporate for that bullshit with the cops. Plus, it would’ve been the perfect opportunity to get rid of his workplace bully.

I loved Pam’s “Well, it’s a good thing we have a temp.”

The microwave storyline, I guess, is summed up in a deleted scene. More people should have agreed with the note Pam left. Whoever leaves a public microwave looking like that needs to be called out, not the person who left the note.

I was enjoying the episode until the end, with the surprise reaction Pam had to Jim’s house purchase, and the cops being bothered with Michael’s foolishness with out any repercussion. I was really hoping Toby would have actually punched Michael at that point.

Hi all,

I didn’t mind the episode so much but I have the advantage of only recently watching the most recent episodes and only catching earlier episodes here and there. If anyone doesn’t mind spoiling it a little for me can you answer the following questions?

I thought Ryan had a job at corporate- now he’s a temp back in the office again? Did he come back for (Kelly?) only to dump her again?

What’s the deal with the Toby hate from Michael?

I thought Pam was going to school and working at corporate now? I missed last week- was that when things changed?

Thanks!

Or at least raised his voice. If Toby would just once give as good as he gets, Michael might stop tormenting him.

I think Pam liked the house because it’s the quintessential little cottage – climbing roses by the door! I didn’t see a picket fence though. Since Jim bought it from his parents, he probably got a deal. Where are his parents anyway? They sure left a lot of furniture in the house.

I liked Ryan going to Thailand with “friends from high school, well, friends from a high school”.

I can see why Pam would like the house/gesture, it’s just her face while touring it didn’t express that. I guess that’s what I didn’t like.

I still think they’re a cute couple, but I have a feeling they’re doing this to set us up for some drama. I can’t quite figure out how, but the one-way street has to become an issue eventually. Either she is going to need to “find herself” or he’ll get fed up or something.

Michael found out Ryan was back at the temp company and begged them to send him back to D-M, no matter what the cost.

Michael has always hated Toby, for not always rational reasons, but largely because he sees Toby as a killjoy who puts a check on some of Michael’s crazier/more inappropriate ideas.

She flunked out.

Michael probably hates Toby even more now, since he’s the replacement for his beloved Holly, who got sent away.

Ryan got fired from corporate. Remember the Dunder Mifflin Infinity site? Well Ryan’s idea was to log sales on the website that were sold at the branches too, basically making it look like more stuff was sold. Or something.

Ryan came back and was trying to get on Kelly, who was dating Daryl from the warehouse. He was all over her then tried to get her to dump Daryl. Ryan obviously thought Kelly wasn’t going to dump him, but when she did he lost his fire for her. So basically he only liked Kelly because he couldn’t have her, now he does and he is an ass again.
