That’s what I thought as well.
You can’t possibly be serious. Please tell me that this is a whoosh. Please. “The straight dope” is an expression that is commonly used and this message board is way too obscure.
Anyway, yeah, great episode. I loved the Ryan and Kelly bits like how Ryan called Kelly in the middle of the night because he was scared that someone was trying to break in to his house.
Roy telling Pam to go for it with Jim was interesting. I bet we get another season ending cliff hanger.
The expression “straight dope” wouldn’t have meant anything to me if he hadn’t juxtaposed it with Google and Wiki.
And I wasn’t thinking about the message board but about the SD website itself (the columns).
So, somebody finally, actually got fired for something at that company. Of course, it’s entirely unfair that Roy would get fired while Andy just got sent to anger management, but that’s entirely believable in the corporate world.
I’m starting to imagine Angela as some kind of unhinged tiger-woman in bed. Maybe I shouldn’t think about these things.
Andy threw a tantrum and punched a wall. Roy assaulted a fellow employee. There is a huge difference there and it was entirely realistic.
Actually, the quote was “here’s the straight dope. No tricks, no Wikipedia.” “Wikipedia” refers to the fact that he used the site for his negotiation tactics. I don’t know how more than one person heard “Google,” when it’s not there!
So, my vote is, not a shout out, even if my ears perked up.
Loved it, gotta watch it again.
Darryl: “I want him to get the raise, I just can’t help myself.”
Michael: “I had a bad day - I accidentally cross dressed . . .”
And I adored Ryan and Kelly. In the confessionals he’s always so superior, acting like he’d love to slough her off, but here we got a little window into him really participating in the relationship, and it’s clear they’re still together for reasons over and above her being unflushable.
Was it just me, or did Jim look a little weird? His hair is longer and fringier or something.
Kelly says Ryan calls her in the middle of night because he hears noises and thinks there’s a burglar in the house, so he calls Kelly to come over. That is the worst cover for a booty call I’ve ever heard, and so lazy! He won’t go to her house to get some action; she has to come to him!
I also noticed there was something different about the cut of Michael’s suit, but hadn’t looked too closely or put much thought into it before they pointed out it was a woman’s suit.
I adore Dwight and Angela together. Like **Baldwin ** said, she’s probably an unhinged tiger-woman in the sack.
I also heard “straight dope” but decided it probably wasn’t an actual shoutout.
Just as obscure. He would have said Snopes or Yahoo Answers before TSD. No way it was a shout out, especially after reading The Shroud’s post which showed the more accurate quote.
Sure does … I think it was a web only outtake where he explained that he resides in Canada for the health care but works in the US and sleeps on the floor of the office at night.
Now that I see the accurate quote I don’t think he was referring to the website. I actually didn’t quite hear exactly what he said at first. I heard “Here’s the straight dope [something something] Wikipedia.” I didn’t hear what he said in between but the fact that he said wikipedia made me think he might have been naming websites. I wasn’t sure what exactly he said, so that’s why I asked. I then assumed that Bababooey’s rendering was accurate (I didn’t actually hear “google”, I just assumed that baba was right).
The words “straight dope” do not normally raise my eyebrows or make me think of the website. I just thought it might have been said in conjunction with some other sites
Did anyone understand what Jim mumbled when Michael was practicing leaving the office unexpectedly? I’m pretty sure it was “Sex, Steve Martin, Teri Hatcher”, but I sure don’t get it…
He was using the same “whisper incomprehensibly” strategy Michael was using to get the upper hand in the dynamics between the two of them.
That’s what I heard, too. I can understand using sex and Teri Hatcher to distract Michael, but I’m not sure about Steve Martin.
According to the Closed Captioning, that’s what he said.
Michael loves comedians. Steve Martin’s old stage act is exactly the kind of schtick that he likes to imitate.
When Angela started looking for the file on Toby’s desk, did Kelly’s phone conversation go something like,“Right, you ordered 12,000 reams of paper. What? Oh, it was only12 reams of paper.”?
It was something like. “Oh, I can totally help you with that. You ordered 12,000 reams of paper? That doesn’t seem right. Oh, twelve reams of paper.”
“I’m declining to speak first” Heh.
ARGGG! I thought it was coming back next week. :smack: :o Oh well, a rerun will be new to me over the summer.
