The Office - 5/2 - Livin the Dream - Starts at 8:30

I looked it up. He’s 5’8", but Dwight is 6’2". And Adriana being shorter then him (unless she was in tall heels) probably helped him look tall for all those years) since she looked so tall. It wouldn’t surprise me if, on the Sopranos, the had him stand on things or put lifts in his shoes to keep him taller then her when they were close as well.

Thanks for the info on Angela, Kelly and Ryan.

Someone on another forum commented that the senator isn’t the baby’s father. Is that true?

I guess I should have been watching the last couple seasons, but my husband hates the show and we didn’t have a DVR until recently.

They had a paternity test done where there was a chance that it could be Dwight’s but it was proved to be the Senator’s son.

So why isn’t Angela getting alimony and child support? Wouldn’t it be really bad press for the senator for his ex-wife and infant child to be homeless? (Or are Angela and the senator separated but not divorced?)

I loved this episode. It really emphasized how, at the end of the day, they all have true affection for one another. Jim being genuinely glad for Dwight and then Dwight sticking up for Jim in the chair argument and then “promoting” him was really nice. Oscar having pity and concern for Angela. Everyone trying to look out for Andy and then thinking that there really was hope for him at the end.

At times I wonder if this show wouldn’t be better as an hour-long episode what with the potential there is with the ensemble cast. It’s marvelous when they let the “minor” characters act instead of quipping forced 1-liners or uber-flanderizing them.

They’re only separated, but yes… She could easily publicly shame the Senator for not sending money. Unless he is, and she was spending it all on kitty litter and vodka.

He could simply play her voicemail where she admits she cheated on him w/ Dwight and it’d probably be all good.

I liked the quick exchange between Stanley and Phylis about Li’l Bow Wow; looks like Phylis has had this argument w/ him before.

No, she’s always had a bunch of cats. There was an early episode where she was checking on her cats via nanny cam, and there were at least a half-dozen. I also don’t understand why she’s suddenly so poor. She’s got a good job, and should be getting at least child support.

You mean during the time when he cheated on her with at least two men? That makes it ok for the child to suffer?

… or the cats for that matter.

I really liked the episode, but I agree that Angela’s storyline made absolutely no sense. Good job + being an accountant + child support + political ex-husband who cares about image + savings + possibility of taking out loan or borrowing = no way she’d have to consider living in a tent. Seems like a cheap trick for added drama, honestly.

The only possible explanation I can come up with is she’s punishing herself for not pursuing Dwight when she had the chance, but the frantic way in which she was trying to get the landlady her money makes that very dubious.

I have no opinion on whether it’s ‘ok for the child to suffer’. In response to Bob Ducca suggesting she ‘publicly shame’ the senator (rather than pursue him in court like people usually do) I rebutted he could likewise shame her right back. Plus, he’s already flamboyantly outed himself, so she’s not got much ‘shame’ ammo left anyway.

It was a good episode and it was nice to see everyone getting along and being good to each other, rather than wacky hijinks. I don’t really know how to feel about Jim and Pam. Part of me was really annoyed at her for being so happy while Jim seemed, not miserable necessarily… resigned I guess. I don’t like how she’s going to seem like she’s making a huge sacrifice because she is so cool when she bestows permission on Jim to go make a shitload of money. But I grudgingly admit that I was happy that they were happy, and if I don’t want to get emotionally jerked around I shouldn’t watch TV, right?

I felt bad for Angela, and for her kid. It was really dark when Oscar said that she still had her son after she lost the cats and she made a face and shrugged. But I really don’t understand the money problems, unless the Senator is trying to set her up for a custody battle by allowing her to have a million cats and live in a tent to prove she’s a bad mom. But that’s me reading waaaaaay more into it than could possibly be explored in 2 more episodes.

Maybe I’m remembering wrong, but didn’t Jim not only pursue this other job but commit to invest their savings in it as well w/o telling his wife before either thing?
I could see not wanting to wind her up about the potential job at the very outset, as it was an abstract idea, but once he got hopeful about it he ought to have brought up w/ her an opportunity that would require their family to move and her to quit her job. And committing family savings w/o complete buy-in from your spouse is pretty awful.
When Pam went to art school in NYC they weren’t even engaged; now there’s quite a bit more at stake.

No. This did not happen.:mad::mad::mad::mad:

I see that he committed much more than she had agreed on, so yes, I misremembered part of it. She agreed to invest some but not $10,000.

The funny thing is that for them that’s a vast amount, but in terms of the total investment in a startup is probably not very much money. I think when he called his friends to offer that amount, they were thinking this, but were too polite to say anything.

Just caught up on this episode. With regard to the Angela situation, I don’t think we’re meant to believe that she’s in serious financial trouble in the long term, just that she’s temporarily in a very rough situation. At the very least she’s recently had to cover moving expenses and a security deposit on her new apartment, and it may be that she’s had other (cat related?) additional expenses since leaving The Senator.

As for child support and alimony, The Senator just came out two episodes back. I doubt he and Angela are divorced already. I assume it also takes some time for child support arrangements to be worked out and the first check to actually arrive. I don’t find it implausible that Angela is, at the moment, short of money and that it might take a couple of months for her to get things back under control.

No, this is wrong. She agreed to put in up to $10,000, but didn’t think Jim would actually put in that much. Then he did and she got pissed.
