The Office 11/6 - Customer Survey

Jim and Dwight react to some negative customer service reviews, and Pam receives an interesting proposition in New York.

Well, the first half of the episode was great. I was laughing nearly throughout. The jokes seemed to completely die off after about 15 minutes though. I wonder what Pam will decide to do. I wouldn’t be surprised if she stayed in NY for a while longer, maybe even the rest of the season.

My favorite part - Pam, “That’s what she said! That’s what she said!” Haha.

My favorite scene was the practice sales call between Dwight and Jim, I mean between Dwight and Mr. Buttlicker.

Yes, that was brilliant! I wish I would have taped this episode so I could watch that scene again.

Kind of ridiculous not to fire Kelly over this stunt she pulled. But that’s Michael for you. Can’t wait to see what Dwight plans for Andy and Angela’s wedding on the Shrute Beet Farm.

Good to see Kelly again; she hasn’t been featured in an episode in quite a while.

Meredith wasn’t fired for having sex with a vendor, and what Kelly did was relatively minor, I guess. Also, Michael would never fire anyone. Not only doesn’t he have the balls, he thinks of them all as family.

Andy’s the biggest sucker in the universe, isn’t he?

And Ryan. I think his preachiness is hilarious.

I thought the Bluetooth thing was a lame plot device, and it is quickly eliminated.

Eliminated? :dubious: How do you mean? It was used through out the entire episode, including the ending when Jim over hears the conversation about staying in New York.

I think this is my favorite episode since the episode “Dinner Party”, which is was an episode fans either seemed to embrace, or to simply hate, (but that seems to be true for almost every Office episode). It was actually my favorite episode.

Everyone knew the Bluetooth idea would result in one of the two being caught in a private moment. The first instance was when Jim got his poor review, where he simply turned off the bluetooth for privacy, then honestly summed-up his poor review to Pam. Some may have assumed that was where the bluetooth’s plot device came in, but I’m sure most expected more to come

The second time, may have been awkward, as most would assume Pam’s friend was going to ask her out. I’m sure that’s what the two characters assumed, but it was about something that Pam couldn’t flat out ‘reject’.

The bluetooth was a plot device, there’s no denying that. I don’t think it’s as if they were silly for using them though. They’re really trying to be together in any form possible at this point. I don’t think it was a mistake to wear them, (well… aside from being at work). This whole conflict was something the two of them were going to have to deal with one way or another. As upsetting as it is for Jim, it was very necessary for him to hear Pam’s friend say some of those things.

The Office has a lot of plot-devices, what’s different about the show is how they use them. Not in this case, but some devices used in other episode have the exact opposite effects than most TV shows.

As for the rest of the episode, pretty damn good. If I were to grade my favorite episode, ‘Dinner Part’, it would be an “A+”. This episode was an “A” for me.

It’s flaws: When Michael talked to Kelly alone, he should have at least attempted to say something to her which would guarantee antics like that should NEVER happen again. As stated, he thinks of his crew as family, and any halfway functional family should require a level of trust between each member. I was impressed with Michael acting like a boss while Dwight and Jim entered the room, if he would have kept it up a little longer when they were alone. He didn’t even have to show signs of being angry, or act concerned about having to punish Kelly. The rest could have played out the same.

Also, I love the idea of the wedding being at Dwight’s, but I’m a little lost on Angela’s motives

Having sex with a vendor harmed no one, but actually helped the company. Kelly was being spiteful over a really lame, petty personal issue and could have deprived Dwight and Jim of a cash bonus. I’d say she’d be fired in any normal office, and should be. How childish, and pretty evil. If something like that happened IRL to you, wouldn’t you want the perpetrator disciplined, if not terminated? I’d go right up the corporate ladder if it were me, to make sure something happened. However, in this show, you have to accept that people are not going to behave as they would in any realistic corporate environment.

It’s kind of painful to watch.

Oh, and if it wern’t for the bluetooth, Pam wouldn’t have been able to tip Jim off on Kelly acting weird.

Really, you knew that Pam was going to be conflicted over leaving New York at some point during the episode as soon as we found out Jim was buying his parents’ house. We’ve been getting hints for seasons now that eventually there’s going to be some type of problem when Jim’s lack of ambition collides with Pam’s desire to do more with her life.

Frankly, I think that buying the house without telling Pam is extremely selfish of Jim. Had he given any thought at all to what Pam might want to do now that she genuinely has a shot at a career in graphic design, he woudn’t be making plans that tied them down to Scranton for the rest of their lives. He really doesn’t seem to get that while he views marrying Pam as, more or less, the goal in his life, she’s not done yet.

Also, not that the whole Bluetooth thing wasn’t contrived to begin with, but what was with Pam’s classmate bursting into her office to tell her that she shouldn’t leave New York? Couldn’t he have, like, emailed her or talked to her about it the next time they were at the bar?

I’m also confused regarding Angela’s motives. What, exactly, is she planning on doing when the wedding is over and she can’t use it as an excuse to get close to Dwight?

I think she is signaling to Dwight to make his move.

ETA: I also think Jim is saving up to have enough to buy the house, but will not buy it without Pam’s consent. He’s not going to surprise her with the done deal.

Andy’s anger issues are coming back… he’s slipping a little. I figure come wedding time he’ll try to kill Dwight.

I took Angela’s description as being her idea of romantic.

Highlights for me:

  1. Angela talking about the old barn and finally making it obvious (to me at least) that she was rhapsodizing about the view she would have while lying on her back with someone on top of her! Andy’s total failure to see it was the icing on the cake.
  2. “That’s what she said! That’s what she said!” - Laugh out loud funny.
  3. The entire Buttlicker phone call, but especially the end - “Don’t do it Michael!” “But it’s a million dollar sale.” Perfectly written and played for those two characters.
  4. “I don’t even know why I make so much.” in re guacamole. It was throwaway line, but a great one.

Andy is truly blinded by love. Deafened too. When Angela specified that the farm had to have a barn where you could see the stars through the missing slates (slats?) in the roof – that wasn’t a clue?

My favorite bits were Pam with the “That’s what she said!” and Dwight being so discombobulated when Jim told him he was right about Kelly.

“Kelly, you can’t get out of trouble by claiming you were raped. Not again.”

I used to go with her.

And this after she told Ryan she was pregnant.

The Pam storyline seems off.

The New York thing was supposed to be for the summer only. By last week’s episode, it was already past Halloween. This week, Pam’s classmate encouraged her to stay in New York, but under the original storyline, that conversation should have taken place a couple of months ago.

It feels like they’re rewriting Pam’s storyline on the fly for some reason to give her less screen time.

Even if this long New York arc thing was planned, Pam’s onscreen time has been very thin. Compare to Jim’s Stamford sojourn – he was given a lot of screen time.

Also, in yesterday’s episode, did they shy away from full figure shots of Pam? It seems like they stuck to closeups, and her face seems fuller, as well.

So, what’s the deal? Something hanging over from Jenna Fischer’s back injury? Something resulting from her divorce? Drug use? Pregnancy? What’s going on here?
