Hour long episode tonight. Holly’s coming back.
Interesting haircut on Holly. Hmm.
And I start with the first spoiler of the thread.
It seemed to open up a lot of unresolved plotlines. (Angela’s boyfriend being gay, Toby’s jury duty, etc.) Interesting to see how these’ll turn out.
But this episode was much funnier than most of them lately. This is my second favorite this season. (The first being the episode where Michael thinks he has herpes.)
I thought last week’s ep was alot funnier.
This episode got me wondering whether Michael might leave the show by being committed… or perhaps worse.
I agree. I started wondering when Michael was going to leave after seeing Holly back in the picture. Slightly distracting.
It was fun to see Jim so demoralized by Dwight’s snowball shenanigans. And coming out to the parking lot to find it filled with those creepy snowmen …
I also enjoyed Erin’s reactions to Holly. “Is she a really good cook?” “I just don’t get it.”
Arrgh, The Office was pre-empted here so we could watch the Titans lose again. And I was looking forward to seeing Holly again. Guess I’ll have to watch online tonight. Curse my employer for blocking streaming video.
That was actually an amusing reversal of their usual roles.
“I’m sorry; I can’t help you. I’m waiting for my boss’s pretty friend.”
I liked the Dwight/Jim fight. When you think about it, it doesn’t really make much sense for Jim to constantly outwit Dwight when Dwight is such a, well, sociopath. I think it also worked because Jim’s initial snowball was really over the line, and Dwight was rightly pissed off. I loved the final line: “The best snowball isn’t a snowball, but fear. Merry Christmas!”
I really only liked the Jim/Dwight snowball storyline from this episode. I agree with Smeghead where Dwight had a legitimate gripe this time. Jim just walking into the office and plastering Dwight with a snowball in the face was out of line, and not funny, and not even a prank. Just stupid physical aggression with no point (an actual HR issue in a RL office). Dwight was right to be pissed, and it was nice to see Jim get humbled for once. He should have known anyway that trying to engage Dwight in a straight up phyical conflict was a bad idea. Dwight kicked his ass.
I thought the Michael/Holly thing was just more of the Michael as a pathetic wretch theme we’ve already seen too much of. I thought we were supposed to be seeing some growth from Michael this season.
I’m getting a little tired of the plotlines involving some kind of bogus suggestion of potential conflict or tension between Jim and Pam, only to resolve itself in perfect joy and bliss. Will he like her homemade gift? Oh,look. he loves it so much he can’t speak. Give us a break with the Jam perfection already. It’s not realistic, and it just comes off as smug. They shouldn’t be afraid to find some actual warts in that marriage, some kind of real conflict or tension. Something they actually have to work through.
How about Oscar immediately twigging that Angela’s date was gay. He said it so matter of factly. Does he actually know something or is he just really confident about his gaydar?
ETA I forgot my favorite line:
“Wait a minute. Why is everybody dismissing this Woody coming to life thing so quickly?”
I have never, ever understood the whole, “woman is gifted with jewelry, is momentarily shocked/silent, then starts weeping with joy” trope, and I actually kind of hate it. From what I could see, he got her a tennis bracelet. BFD.
Honestly, I kind of thought his response to her present was a little ambiguous. “Wow, that’s my bike! And that’s my baby!” He seemed a little underwhelmed, and in the talking head I thought he was just trying to find something accurate to say that wouldn’t sound mean, and he failed.
I don’t think Pam should have told Michael about Holly. I don’t think it was her business to tell, and it kind of gives Michael some pathetic shred of hope to cling on to when it’s clear Holly has moved on.
Me either. My wife couldn’t care less about jewelry and thinks it’s a waste of money. It’s kind of a sexist trope. Why is a tennis bracelet something to weep over? Is Pam that shallow?
Also, what’s with Holly giving her boyfriend a timeline to propose? If she wants to get married, why doesn’t she propose herself? This show gets kind of stuck on sexist tropes like that.
I agree with Gestalt; Jim’s reaction was totally ambiguous.
I had the impression that he’s actually wrong about this one.
Best episode in a long time, I think.
Pam’s reaction to her gift seemed like a paid placement to me. I felt like I was watching a jewelery commercial.
I’m thinking Oscar is going to steal Angela’s boyfriend. Wouldn’t that be rich?
Angela is the perfect fake girlfriend for a gay guy. He can probably go fifty dates without even getting a kiss.
I didn’t get the slightest hint that Jim was anything but totally blown away by Pam’s present, nor would it be in character for him, imho.
There was a joke about iCarly that I totally didn’t get, having no idea what iCarly is. Can anyone explain it?
All I know is that it is a cable television program aimed at teenagers. It’s about a girl who records her experiences for video blogging.
I think his response was genuine; i.e., he liked it.
Edited to add that while his jewelry gift was great, I think her gift was much better, because she created it herself.
I liked Creed being so delighted to get deodorant.
i liked the episode. classic office humor in full effect.
i did not like the darryl storyline though. it was weird.
