I loved everyone’s reaction to the online promos. When Pam went to meet Brian I kept thinking “Why does she still have her mice on” then he mentioned the parabolic mics. Angela and Oscar’s joint phone call to the Senator was pretty funny. So the documentary is airing over 9 nights in May? It’s much shorter than I thought. I was thinking that each epsisode of the show would turn out to be an episode of the documentary and we were actually seeing the finished product. It would seem instead we’re seeing raw footage like in The Comeback.
I don’t know what we’re watching, my guess would be raw footage… never saw The Comeback.
When did it say this? I must have missed it.
The first video Oscar watched.
When she was talking to Brian, he covered his mouth so that one of his comments was blocked by the parabolic mic. What do you think he said? That he loved her?
So, since Brian obviously knows that he is being filmed and miked - is his attraction to Pam real, or a semi-scripted attempt by the producers to throw some extra drama into their show?
Any updates on the Scranton Strangler? Or is the official word that the convicted man was in fact guilty? I was hoping it would be someone we knew?
The convicted man was the Scranton Strangler (he proceeded to strangle Toby when he visited the Strangler in jail).
Well that’s disappointing. I was hoping it was at least be a minor character we had seen before.
I don’t think it was manufactured (by the documentary producers). I think Brian grew to love/be infatuated by her over the course of the years he spent observing her.
Whichever option is dumber.
Pam’s response to Jim’s new job is so depressing. Maybe it’s a failing of the show, that it hasn’t fleshed her out much, but I don’t even know if she has family or friends in Scranton other than her co-workers. As far as I can tell she doesn’t really have much to lose by relocating. Unless her job is that important to her… what is her job, anyway? Office manager? If Jim is successful he has the kind of job that might offer her more flexibility to work on her art, or whatever. The fact that she can’t roll with a career change is really lame.
Yet it is realistic. She has something comfortable, moving away from that is scary as hell. She also had a vision of their cosy future and Jim has thrown those plans all out of whack.
Personally I thought it was one of the best episodes in donkey’s years.
Agreed. And the way she’s been acting like it’s some kind of horrible betrayal that he even wants to do it (before the job required him to spend most of his time in Philly) is just awful.
Pam’s been shown to have a lot of flaws over the seasons. Jim had only one - the lack of ambition. With the Philly move Jim doesn’t have [major] flaws anymore but Pam is still riddled with flaws. It makes it seem like maybe Pam wasn’t the perfect girl for Jim and really he should have been with Karen or someone else.
It was one of the best episodes in a while. Even though I complain about it I like that they are creating conflict between Jim and Pam. I just wish it didn’t make Pam so unlikable. When she seems stressed out over caring for 2 kids herself that seems realistic. The awkward phone conversation seemed realistic. But saying that that he’s changed because he’s pursuing a new job is hypocritical and childish of her and make it hard for me to be sympathetic.
Ok, now I’ve officially spent too much time thinking about it. Sorry about the 2 post in a row.
If Pam has an epiphany that the reason that she’s upset is not because she doesn’t want to upturn their life but rather because she’s disappointed that her dream didn’t go so well and Jim is having success at his, then I’ll feel better about her. Because it is unfair, the way life is unfair, that when she ventured off and tried something she failed but Jim is succeeding. I can see Pam feeling resentful and hurt and not really being able to articulate it.
But, I’m sure I’ve overthought it and it’ll be resolved by her watching footage of them falling in love and realizing she loves him all over again, or even the slightly more complex realization that he stood by her so she should stand by him. I am curious how it gets resolved.
Of course he’s changed Pam, for the better.
She just saw clips from their courtship and got nostalgic for the early days of the relationship when things were new and exciting. She’ll realize that she has it really good about two seconds after seeing video of her and Roy.
I’m really curious how the ‘real life’ of the documentary invades their own lives. I think it’s a great way to close out the series.
That said, I agree with the above. Pam’s just coming off as needy. I think they’ll let her swing for a few more episodes and close it with them in love and living in Philly.
