Dwight invites his friends and family to apply for the new sales position; Rolph, Trevor, Mose, Karate sensei Ira, Troy Underbridge, his babysitter/lover (I think her name’s Melvina), Nate, another one of Dwight’s relatives, some guy that’s probably been on the show before who’s into paintball, and the dude from ‘Tim and Eric’s Awesome show’. Any that I’m missing? Anyone catch the names he listed? Clark ends up getting the gig.
Jim asks David Wallace for money… He didn’t really let Wallace reply, could that have been him calling Jim back? Jim and Darryl make for an ‘odd couple’ of roommates in Philadelphia.
Pam and Brian, (the boom mic operator), are getting close. Brian was fired after getting into an altercation with the warehouse employee that defaced Pam’s mural.
Kevin calls out the State Senator Lipton for using Oscar and Angela for political reasons at their baby’s first birthday party.
I find it odd that they fired Brian for ‘saving’ Pam. I understand that he was reprimanded for breaking the forth wall last week, but this is different. Yes, his emotions we’re clearly starting to get in the way of his work and maybe this was an easy way for the producers to nip it in the bud, but OTOH, he shouldn’t have let it play out either. (I feel like I’m talking about it like it’s The Real World or Road Rules).
I’m still assuming they’re setting Pam up to quit as the show winds up. She’s clearly unhappy in Scranton while Jim is clearly very happy in Philly. She might as well move out there and be with him. Maybe Jim’s place will take on a few big clients/contracts so she can at least know they’ll have some stability for the next year or so and feel better about moving.
Yeah, it was pretty fun that most of those friends of Dwight had appeared in previous episodes. That was a fun/funny touch. And, they were all pretty funny in this appearance. Nate always cracks me up.
I enjoyed both episodes. Lots of laughs. I really really liked Erin attempting to fool the entire office.
I’m not sure I like the whole Brian thing. But, I guess a little drama doesn’t hurt. I just wish they had hinted a bit about that earlier in the season. Instead of them throwing it all at us 3 episodes in a row.
Going back to last week’s episode. (I never had a chance to reply) that fight between Jim and Pam was so real it hurt to watch. Excellent writing, and performing.
I always enjoy it when Dwight and Pam are friends. And, both of these episodes had a bit of that.
The show has definitely improved since that lice episode. I’m happy about that. Hopefully it keeps up the quality right up til the finale.
Rolph Ahl, Who fishes using grenades.
Trevor, When you say “jump”, he says “on who”.
Mose, Who has a fear of paper.
Nate, who’s quarreling with his mom, because he can’t stay out of her stuff.
Zeke, Dwight’s Cousin who overheard Dwight talking to Mose in the shower.
Melvina, Dwight’s Babysitter/lover (strictly carnal).
Gabor, X-Men School, who’s powers include Night hearing, and dogs understanding where he points.
Hidetoshi ‘I Was A Doctor’ Hasagawa.
Wolf, Mandatory Paintball at lunch.
Troy L. Underbridge, A goblin or a hobbit or a Kobold which is a type of gremlin.
Sensei Ira, who shows up in his martial arts uniform.
I love Creed storming out with the rest of the mob.
I like the Brian storyline. These two have known each other for nine years, and they make it out as if he’s been fawning over Pam the whole time. The first episode we learn he got into hot water, and he tells Meredith that they’re cracking down on them talking to the subjects… all the while the camera’s on. With Jim’s speech at the end, where he talks about who’s physically close to you for a long time matters, (as it did with him and Pam), the camera pans to Brian who’s smiling and looking at Pam with affection. In the second episode, when Pam felt all alone, he hinted he was there for her with bumping her head with the mic. When Frank stormed after Pam, and Brian stepped in it just might have been the last straw… it’s not so much that he was wrong, but that he’s become a subject himself.
Brian’s a good looking dude… But I don’t know who plays him.
Aha! He’s a recurring character on Up All Night - Ava’s accented resteraunt owning friend. I knew I’d seen him before. I guess I also saw him on Day 8 of 24 but I don’t specifically remember him on that.
Something that occurred to me as Dwight was interviewing candidates for the job opening; what happened to Ed Helms? Is he ever returning to the show? The prolonged absence seems awkward in the final season.
I thought I saw promotional thing somewhere with the caption “Andy Returns!”, but I could be wrong. I read in one of the other threads that he’s filming a movie. I’m waiting to see if he calls for Erin to move down with him as I’m guessing that’s going to be part of dismantling The Office.
Can somebody explain why at the end of the first episode, the camera operator would show Brian, the sound guy?
Is the documentary crew now documenting the documentary crew?
Are there two documentary crews or are we watching thru a regular camera, and if so, then why wasn’t the documentary crew visible throughout the entire series?
The applicants for the job were VERY FUNNY, although once again, credibility was pushed to its breaking point in believing that Dwight, who obviously is a good salesman would even consider these freaks for the job.
The second episode about the vandalism was possibly the worst TV show I have ever witnessed. And I am a geezer who has been watching TV since the 1950’s.
I swear that halfway through I wondered if they intentionally make it that bad so people like me will watch it in astonishment.
What a waste of the talented cast.
But someone please answer my question about the documentary crew. How did we see Brian at the end if the camera operator was also visible standing to his right?
There’s obviously no rigorously correct answer, and there have been plenty of times earlier in the series where the logistics of the situation made it pretty clear that there couldn’t actually be a documentary camera crew there.
My fanwank of why we suddenly saw Brian is this: this documentary crew has been in the office for ages shooting tons of footage. So presumably plenty of times in the past 9 years there have been moments when the boom mikes were on camera, moments when we saw the crew filming Jim in the background of a shot filming Dwight, etc. etc. But, the show that we saw was edited together by selectively picking only the “relevant” footage to tell a story.
Now suddenly the story of Pam actually includes Brian, so suddenly it makes sense to include him in shots, even if it means breaking the 4th wall in a way that was only sparingly done earlier. (We did, for instance, see people talk about the cameras, or take off their microphones, or point things out to the cameramen, etc.)
That’s all I got, in any case.
If you watch any reality tv, there are often multiple camera crews filming concurrently. Iif you accept the documentary conceit of the entire series, then it’s not that much of a stretch that they’d have the same thing going on.
Why didn’t you enjoy the 2nd episode? I thought both halves of last night’s hour were some of the strongest they’ve put out in awhile.
