So they pulled off the reset. The predictions that DM would end up buying out MSPC were correct. I thought it was a pretty satisfying resolution to that arc, but it seemed a little abrupt. I wouldn’t have minded seeing it stretched out a little more.
Still, we got to see a real victory for Michael. He took enough customers to make them sweat and he came through in the negotiation. It was like he went into his salesman savant mode. He knew exactly the strength to negotiate from. He didn’t screw it up by trying to bluff about the value of his company, and instintively knew how to put the screws to David about his own job security.
I know the show hasn’t been 100% consistent with this theme, but I like it when we see that Michael has some genuine, innate talent when he’s able to get out of his own way.
How about the way that Charles instantly turned into a total ass-kiss when Wallace showed up – and the look on his face when he finally started to realize that Dwight is insane (like Dwight would use a bad apiarist).
Also liked seeing Ryan’s roots growing back. And Pam is in sales now. I wonder if there might be any client battles between her and Jim.
And after he made a big deal to Wallace about him prefering Dwight over Jim. Jim suggests a temporary discount for returning customers; Dwight keeps talking about bees.
The funniest thing in the episode was when Dwight returned to the bee idea. Everyone else was thinking things through, considering their options. Dwight was thinking bees the whole way.
Also, Jim and Dwight and Charles in the break room. Jim played them both masterfully.
“When a small child gets behind the wheel of a car and crashes into a tree, you don’t get mad at the child. On the other hand, when a 30 year old woman gets into the passenger seat and says ‘drive! drive!’…”
“You two are morons.”
“If you had just returned Michael’s call, we wouldn’t be losing customers.”
It’s kind of nice when Michael pulls his savant act. You can almost see David wondering how the hell he came to be in this position.
I agree if what you’re saying is that you would have liked to see the MSPC last longer, (I was hoping until the end of the season). Other than that… Wow. I think the writing for this episode was superb. I love that Jim took the loss of his boss not taking kindly to him after claiming victory in making Dwight’s claims seem frivolous. Michael’s dialog with Wallace was clever, though, like **Dio **said, not exactly consistent. What WAS funny was Michael even doubted he would do well.
What was Charles’ deal with Jim, where did the hate come from? I loved that Charles called Dwight and him both idiots, but Jim could walk away knowing he’d won.
It cracks me up that he keeps singling out Stanley, before I figured it was just because he does crosswords when he should be listening, but its obviously for something else as well.
“Our balls are in your court.”
Michael’s return to DM was, like everyone knows, predictable, but, like Dio, I thought it was well done. I’m glad Ryan seems to be back for good. I thought he, as he has been for the past couple episodes, was the funniest in this episode, like when he channels Michael, saying to the accountant, “Why don’t you explain what you think it means to us?” And when Wallace makes an offer, and Ryan interjects, “Maybe.”
I really hope that now that DM is whole again, the writing doesn’t go back to being as lackluster as it had been.
There was a brief scene midway through where they showed the MSPC van stopping to pick her up on one of their morning runs.
Sitnam, There was an episode last season where Michael and Dwight went to visit Ryan in NYC, and it was made clear that Ryan was coked up. It was shortly before he was arrested.
Michael found him working as a “shoe bitch” in a bowling alley after he had presumably returned from his party trip to Thailand (which we now know was really Ft. Lauderdale).
