The Office Christmas Special: VHS Tape Recorded in England, Want to Watch in the US

How do I watch a tape that was recorded on a VCR in England on my US VCR and television? Is it a lost cause? Can I transfer the tape to DVD? Does anyone know who can provide this service? When I play it now, I can hear the soundtrack playing, albeit at an increased speed, and the picture is not visible. Any advice is appreciated.
Note: The Office Christmas Special is not available in the US and, to my knowledge, is not played on BBC America. My friend who lives in London recorded it for me on her VCR. If you have good advice for me and want a copy (and it isn’t too expensive), I’m happy to forward on a copy.

Not sure about your PAL-NTSC conversion issue, but I thought I’d just point out the DVD will be available November 16.

The special will be broadcast on BBC America on October 21, 23 and 24 at 9pm so I doubt it’s worth converting from PAL.

But for the record, you can look in your phone book for “video conversion” and you should find more than a few entries.

I got a tape of one of my favorite bands on Aussie TV a while back, in PAL of course (i’m in the US). I looked up “video conversion” in my phone book, drove out to the person’s house (it was a Stay At Home Mom with a husband who thought it’d be profitable to buy a PAL->NTSC machine), dropped the tape off and picked it up in a coupla hours.

I think it cost me $16 and I was the darling of the US tape trading world for a while
