The Office, 'Lotto'

A weaker episode in my opinion. I didn’t find much humor in any of the Darryl storyline, the potential new hires scenes didn’t do much, and the greased warehouse floor never really had a payoff.
I do have one question though. There was a line said by either Jim or Dwight when they were chatting with eachoter in the warehouse. One of them said something like “At least we’re not ??? and/or ???” and it sounded like they said a couple of names. I couldn’t make out the names and was wondering if it was some kind of inside joke using the names of some camermen or producers?

I found the opening to be weak. Oscar smashing a window in, then leaving the dog there with all the shattered glass. I **liked **the Andy and Darryl storyline, not much humor, but I found it entertaining. I didn’t like Jim acting like the rest of the morons in the warehouse.

Dwight: “We should be able to find a more efficient way of moving boxes than Madge or Hidei”

Madge was the only woman who worked in the warehouse and Michael could never remember her name correctly (I think he called her “Pudge” or something).

Hidei was hired by Darryl to work in the warehouse after he impressed him with his story about being a Japanese brain surgeon who was on the run from the Yakuza.

Loved Erin’s look of horror at Dwight’s decommissioning of the forklift and her hard-ass act with Kevin – “Drop it!”

Silly, sub-par episode. I know that the office staff may be a bit lost in the warehouse but they are that stupid. Kevin crawling on the floor with a box on his back? A greased floor?

Methinks that this show may have jumped the shark. I really used to love it, too. Too bad.

I missed the beginning and was only half-watching while doing other things, but I was found myself laughing every time I paid attention. I agree it was silly, but I loved Jim’s waffling between trying to be the responsible voice of reason and getting caught up in the dicking around.

My favorite part:

Sigh… …porque es muy rapido.”

I thought this was a great episode, one of the better ones in a long time.

But I’m surprised no one commented on the idiocy of the warehouse staff quitting. They won $950,000 right? Split six ways? After taxes you’re talking maybe $90,000 each. Not exactly “fuck you” money. Certainly not, “strippers on a boat” money.

But enough for an initial investment on a self-employed business, perhaps, which is apparently what most of them did.

Was that total or how much they won apiece? I thought it was the latter.

In the opening bit w/ the dog trapped in the car, why did they break the window when the sunroof was obviously open (unless that was the joke).

The scene began with Jim roughly calculating that they would get $100,000 each before taxes.

Didn’t a few of them invest in a strip club on a boat?

I thought that was the joke- they didn’t know any better. I suspect next week there will be a throwaway line about how Andy and Darryl don’t need to hire anyone since they all asked for their jobs back, after realizing how they’re not actually on easy street.

I thought the ep was another bad one, but probably 2/3 of the eps in the last season-and-a-half have been bad. I watch because it’s still in my ‘season pass’ queue, but I don’t really enjoy it anymore.

It’s pretty common for lottery winners to blow through their winnings and find themselves at square one.

I suspect as much as well. I was just surprised it wasn’t mentioned in this episode, especially when Andy was trying to convince Daryl it wasn’t the end of the world that he didn’t win.

Andy and Darryl’s stroy was good. Not particularly funny, but still good. I think Andy has grown more as a character than anyone else on the show.

I kinda enjoyed the warehouse story because I it was very familiar to me. I worked a summer job at a high school, and one day we were tasked with moving a few hundred boxes of paper from one room to another. Now all the boxes were on pallets and we had a pallet jack, but the pallets were too wide to get through the door. So we had to carry each box one by one. It took pretty much all day. If someone had suggested, “Why don’t we grease up the floor and slide them along,” we probably would’ve gone with it.

I thought it was silly and exaggerated… but still quite a bit of fun. I laughed a lot. That’s good enough for the moment.

I liked when Andy straightened Darryl out and showed some management ability. I always liked when Michael had flashes of competence that made it somewhat believable that the character could actually remain employed.

Taco air is heavy.

Andy straightening out Darryl was the only good moment in the show. It may be that they’re setting up Andy to be an anti-Michael. No sales skills at all, but an ability to connect with and motivate the rest of the staff.

The car’s sunroof was open and they still freaked out about the dog?
Geez, people, grow up.
