What a fucking shame that those HBO fucknuts couldn’t give us a 4th season. Does anyone know if the two hour movies are going to happen? We can probably expect that some of the plot threads will not be resolved because they were expecting to continue them later.
Even though Hearst is a historical figure, I don’t think that it means that he can’t die. In the real history, Aunt Lou had nothing to do with Hearst and Jane was long gone from Deadwood at that time. That said, I don’t think that he will die. I think that he will end up slinking out of camp in shame which is a fate worse than death for him.
This season has been all about the camp coming together as a true community. This will be a story of redemption as they galvanize to fight a common enemy. I can’t wait.
I’ll feel better about the two-hour movies when I hear that even one of the actors has been signed up. Hasn’t happened yet, as far as I know.
What plot threads need resolution? Just Hearst, really, and the elections. The only other questions I have relate to character and relationship development, and what happens when the excitement dies down. How do these people live their lives when there’s no killing to be done, or people who need protecting?
I have no idea how they can resolve all the open plot threads, and I don’t think they will. My guess is that the final episode will revolve around the election, and Hearst deciding to leave camp. There might be a major change or two with a couple of characters, but essentially we’re going to be leaving Deadwood much the way it is now.
I wouldn’t be surprised if the last episode has Alma leaving town as well, to wrap up the Bullock thread. And I’m guessing something will happen to Cy - he just seems to be on a major meltdown. So that will leave Al as the ‘winner’, Bullock settled down and elected Sheriff, and Deadwood moving into the next phase of its existence. That’s probably the most we can hope for in terms of plot resolution.
Supposedly the movie is going to come out late 2007, early 2008 at the earliest. I’m not holding out a lot of hope that it’s going to happen.
I read somewhere that season three was filmed before they knew there wouldn’t be a 4th season so that might account for some of the random storylines that go nowhere.
There will be a confrontation (if the preview can be believed). I hope to see Wu’s chinks come roaring into the fray with hatchets and throwing stars. As a confirmed FuckheadTM, it really pisses me off that the series is ending. As to plot, I see an uneasy standoff, if not an alliance, and Hearst buying out Alma, who will head east with her charge to get her out of the violent surroundings. It’s a pretty big bite out of history to dismiss Hearst’s enormous profits from the gold in the area and to kill him off. Now, if this episode was shot before they decided to end the series, disregard all of the above. Carry on, fellow Fuckheads.
It was. If I remember right, they wrapped up filming in March or April, and the cancellation news came in late May, or June. Cast and crew heard it on the news, along with everyone else.
Damn. Fuck. I had no idea the series was canceled until I opened this thread.
I will have to limp along with Rome and Entourage.
I’ve been thinking all season long that the teasers for the next week’s episode have been just that – promising some resolution but not delivering. Every week just kept building and building the tension with an apparent cliffhanger endings, but no real actions to match. The exception was Dan’s fight, but now we’ll probably never even learn why that happened.
I think we’ve had a lot of resolution. Maybe resolution isn’t the right word, but when you look back over the episodes, you see growth and change.
Seth has shown some self-control. Joanie’s free of Cy. I think Alma will be able to handle future misfortune without resorting to dope. E.B. found his balls. Jane has some self-respect. Merrick’s lost some idealism. Al’s crew speaks up to him (not totally without fear, but they don’t cower).
It’s not enough, of course. I’d love to know where Milch was going with the actors.
That’s not farfetched at all, is it, that Deadwood will be studied in college. Hell, if it can happen with Buffy – why not Deadwood? There’s a wealth of material for historians, sociologists, psychologists – all those 'ists.
The EXTRAS (Remember my housemmate was an extra on these last few episodes)found out about the cancellation as they were filming last week’s episode. So its probably safe to say Milch knew a bit before that.
So Milch knew about the cancellation before this week’s episode was filmed? Oooh, that’s interesting. Ya gotta wonder if he made any last minute changes. Nobody would have noticed, since that’s the way he worked.
Accoding the the transcripts, she didn’t say anything after she killed him. When she saw Sol she said, “Ellsworth’s murdered, and I fucking shot Hearst, and I don’t think I killed him!”
