In '92, Clinton, Bush (Sr.), and Perot were all southpaws, so it was another inevitable year.
i know for sure 41 and 42 are lefties, was 43?
W was not lefthanded.
Check this out.
One of my Chinese acquaintances just IM’ed me: “Your new African President has very good English!”
Of course not, he wouldn’t have anything to do with the left.
I had watched the broadcast on Hulu (got the fox one), and then ABC.com for a while, but then both of them crapped out pretty much from high bandwidth issues around the Warren speech, and I couldn’t get in line to watch on CNN.com.
So i just went to the Obama’s Official Inauguration news feed and watched it there in hi-res with no issues.
My highlights:
Abc.com had a GREAT shot of Rahm entering and greeting people, and then the pundits were talking about how he’s an unusual character, and the camera cuts back to Rahmbo, and he’s waving his thumb on his nose at someone in the crowd and laughing. Giving them the ol’ 5 fingered salute, but not in anger, but it seemed as a joke- the pundits cracked up on that bit, and so did i.
I also really like the Obama Speech- liked the shout-out for the Atheists, but also the shout-out to Hindus as well! Yay! And the emphasis on Science again and the unclench your fists lines were nice too. Loved the ending invocation of Washington’s words, as ABC kept wondering if Obama would refer back to Clinton or Reagan in his speech- but he went REALLY old school with his throwback.
Hated the Poem. Just… blah.
Loved the Benediction though. I thought he was GREAT! He was a lovable old man, who didn’t come across as a threatening religious figure at all, and I totally could dig on him. And i loved his little poem at the end: * for that day when black will not be asked to get back, brown can stick around, yellow will be mellow, the red man can get ahead, man, and white will embrace what is right! Amen! *
I think I WILL stick around
Here’s to a successful 4 years people!
And there we have conclusive proof that he is in his right mind.
I guess it wouldn’t hurt to post these video links from local performances. If you get bored with today’s events, they are fun to watch, and short. Enjoy!
Hervy Hodges sings “A Change is Gonna Come” for MLK Day 2009.
Hervy Hodges recites MLK’s original “I Have a Dream” speech for MLK Day 2009
Transcript (quick work, Beeb!).
On CBS, they’re talking about the first hundred days.
Bob Schieffer mentions Bush Sr. and Reagan, that most of their accomplishments happened in the first year, then adds: “I don’t know why anyone runs for a second term – that’s when everyone goes to jail.”
Great line.
Okay, I laughed at that one. I agree, twix.
Fox News cut off its coverage (at least on the local channel).
Obama just came out to Hail to the Chief, that was pretty cool.
They usually get handed out a few hours ahead of time.
I don’t know why I’m really caring, but I’m liking how they’ve been referring to Dr. Jill Biden.
Emanuel lost half of his right middle finger in some accident as a teenager. He jokes that he had to learn to talk with his left hand.
In my email, there was thislink for folks to apply for Obama government grants. Apparently, they’re trying to scam someone here.
Me too. I was a little annoyed by “Mrs Cheney” or “Ms Rice”.
I was impressed by his speech. I think he did great. It was pretty impressive.
I don’t have a cite handy, but I could swear I’ve heard somewhere that Executive One is the callsign for a nonmilitary aircraft with POTUS aboard. But this is the second time today I’ve seen that name applied to the helo that took former-President Bush to the airport. Can a Doper pilot straighten this out?
