The Official Inauguration-Watching Thread

I think the consensus (both legal and common) is that, though the wording of the oath was fumbled a bit, it was clearly administered properly, and Barack Obama is President.

The 1991 book Generations defines what is called elsewhere “Generation X” as 1961-1981. Others say the Baby Boom’s final year was 1964, with Gen X as 1965-1980.
I’d say, being on the cusp, Obama is part of Generation Jones.

GO BUCKS! I just saw the OSU Marching Band speed past. I’m really disappointed that Barack, Michelle, Joe, and Jill didn’t do OH-IO.

so now i’m in gen. jones? okay, i can live with that. i was tired of saying tail tip of boomer.

the bands were fun and the obama’s really enjoyed their high school bands.

on to the dance portion of the inaug. poor michele she only has about an hour and a half to get ready.

Cool legumes, then!

Q

So, there were some ticketing nightmares that were going on down on the Mall. I’ve heard some horror stories already about having a ticket and being stuck in a line until well after noon and never getting to a seat/assigned place, despite the fact that there were openings.

It’s “O-HI-O.” And they could have used Aretha’s hat to dot the “I”.

I was hoping for Script “Obama” - it wouldn’t have been too difficult.

:smack:

I beg your indulgence, since I’m a Buckeye (useless nut, not the ocular organ of a dead animal) by virtue of a paycheck rather than a diploma.

(You’re right on about Aretha’s hat!)

ETA:** ElvisL1ves**, that would have been awesome!

I wish I could have seen the luncheon and the parade, but work called. I did manage to see the swearing in. I thought Aretha did a fine job, even if she did wander away from the melody toward the end. The poet started lame, but ended well–her delivery was crap. I like the bit (mentioned upthread) about the kitchen tables and some of the other imagery mentioned at the end of the poem (can’t recall it, but have had a grueling day). The benediction was great–I found the last bit to be lightly humorous–and he is about the only person who could pull it off.
The dress (ensemble) of Michelle’s was nice. It’s not my thing, but it looked good on her. The girls looked good and I like that they don’t have all new stuff for this–I’ve seen that blue coat before. I do like sensible public figures.
Loved, loved, loved the music–the choir singing was a bit over-enunciated, IMO, but the YoYo Ma bit was great. Copeland!

I hope both Byrd and Kennedy are ok.

Barack: “First of all…how good lookin is my wife…” LOL!

that is a smart husband.

Somebody’s gonna get lucky tonight …

I was wondering if they would break in the new house.

I couldn’t care less about Michelle Obama’s dress or the guy who designed it. It fits, it looks good, it got some Good Husband Points, let’s move on newspeople!

Me and my wife decided that we really wanted to see this with a crowd. So we found that Landmark Theaters was going to be showing the feed, first-come, first-serve. It was in a 150 seat auditorium at Chicago’s Landmark Century Centre theater. I got there at 7:30, they let us in around 10AM and the theater was packed fairly quickly. They were showing the CNN-HD feed, and it looked great! The projector was actually double HD, what they call “4K” in the film business, and the color and setup was perfect. Thank you Mark Cuban! Michelle’s outfit was actually a light chartreuse.

This Chicago crowd was pretty partisan to say the least, cheering and applauding various lines from the speech, especially the lines about science. Aretha’s backup singers totally cracked me up, singing “Ring! Ring! Ring!” during the song, as if they were singing “Re-re-re-re” in “Respect”.

Per ABC and bloggers, that would apparently make Hillary Atia of the Julii. (YouTube for brevity.)

Now imagine Hillary humpin’ away as she straddles Timon (aka James Carville)

Maybe he’s a vampire? about time the Undead Americans were given a voice too

I guess we are both perverts. I found a video, and after listening again, she definitely put the T after the pause. “My cun… tree, tis of thee”.

Pretty funny though that Jon Stewart picked it and and got some chuckles over it.
