The Official Inauguration-Watching Thread

Will they stop with the whole Black National Anthem thing?!?!?! We’ve had a hard enough time convincing people Barack is even an AMERICAN. Now they come out with “pray white will make right” and implying blacks have their own national ANTHEM?

Are we TRYING to validate every Rev. Wright fear in America?

Thanks to Youtube. Yes.

I know it’s late but…

“It was the Salmon Mousse!”

“Do you speak Jive?”

Yes, yes, I remember, I had lasagna.

i must be missing something. isn’t obama at the tail end of the boomer generation? i know that clinton and w bush are at the nose end, but all three are boomers, yes?

they keep mentioning that he is a new generation. perhaps because the boomer generation had so much stuff happen in it that it seems like 2 instead of 1.

Depends on who you ask, but Obama has a different background and has consistently described himself over the last four years as being separate from major cultural issues that were central to the Boomers, like Vietnam and the cultural struggle of the '60s. There are some definitions that put him at the very end of the baby boom, but he is 15 years younger than Bush, so that’s a pretty significant gap.

Depends on what you mean by Baby Boomer

I agree that, culturally speaking, Baby Boomers are those who were born roughly in the decade following the war. Obama was born in 1961, and doesn’t fit within the narrow definition. Since he was born 15 years after the first Boomers, that’s nearly an entire generation later.

Re Aretha: I swear there was this apalling pause right at the start: My cunt… tree. Did my perverted brain insert that awkward pause?

Asspennies is from Upright Citizen’s Brigade, not KitH! Shame on you both. :stuck_out_tongue:

Your brain was distracted by that hideous bow, me thinks.

THe kids from Hawaii look cold. Already the crowds are going home.

thanks, left hand of dorkiness. i figured on it being a 20 year span. it is true that growing up in the 60’s and growing up in the 70’s are 2 very different childhoods.

here i thought i was a boomer… maybe not. but i can see where the tail end of the boom could be very disconnected from the nose end of the boom.

I blame Aretha’s hat.

No wonder I’m so mixed up. I was born in 1962. So that makes me a baby-boomer, I’ve heard all my life (based on the Census definition), yet I never felt like a baby-boomer.

Maybe you’re thinking of the Popemobile?

I must share your perverted-ness. When she sang that, I turned to my husband and said, “Well, that was an unfortunate break in the lyrics.”

So with him “jumping the gun” (as it were) , is the oath intact?

Q

Doesn’t matter if they’re not convinced now.

I read somewhere that Obama was born in the first year of Gen-X, but I don’t know where. I’ll see if I can find it…
