I see the arrival of Jones as a positive. I think he’ll rebound offensively this year, and we really need a strong bat in the middle of the line-up. If Coletti deals Kemp, it will be for a starting pitcher, hopefully one better than Wolfe or Schmidt (what a deal those two were! :smack: )
I’d still like a strong bat at third, but who is there out there to deal for?
There are rumors floating around that the Dodgers have an interest in Scott Rolen, who may or may not remain with the Cardinals due to his issues with Tony LaRussa. Rolen is no Miguel Cabrera, but he could still add some potency to the lineup. Moreso than Andy LaRoche in the near-term, anyway.
Which reminds me – do we have any idea of what to expect out of Nomar Garciaparra this year?
I’m supposed to gloat about the Cabrera-Willis (that sounds like some bill that’d get passed through Congress, doesn’t it?) acquisitions, but I’m slightly miffed at the amount and level of the prospects that we’ve been giving away like a whore gives away handjobs.
With that being said, I’m ready for my handjob because I’m at full mast because the batting order looks positively lethal and the rotation looks rather spiffy, although the bullpen is going to be the engine that drives the team, like any championship team.
Nomar needs to be dealt to somebody for, oh…maybe an assistant groundskeeper or something. There has to be a young, healthy third-baseman out there somewhere. Rolen would be alright, I guess, but I’d be happier if we could find someone with a ton of range, because Furcal isn’t getting any younger at short, and we’re gonna need the extra coverage on the left side. I like shifting Pierre to left, because that lessens the negative impact of his lack of an arm, while keeping the jackrabbit in the lineup.
Am I the only Yankee fan, that thinks it will not be the end of the world if we miss the playoffs this year in exchange for keeping young talent for a change and growing towards the future.
I have run across a lot of Yankee fans and some others here that think we should trade Hughes & Kennedy & Cabrera + 1 more to get Santana.
This is the reason the Yanks have had too old of a team. They have failed to balance the vets with youth. I am very happy that Cashman’s Gene Michaels inspired plan seems to be taking hold.
