It’s time we took the word omnibus out of the vocabulary. A stupid word it is. It’s from Latin, through the French. With parents like that, you know it’s a as clueless as Adam is Mother’s day. The word Omnibus has become one of those tenacious skid marks that, no matter how many times you flush, just won’t disappear. You have to scrub it out. By hand, one mark at a time. No one wants skid marks in their personal oval office, in fact women won’t perch on a throne with skid marks in it. But you expect them to post here.
FUCK OMNIBUS ANYTHING.
OMNI BUS done crashed. Unworthy of being rebuilt, just like a French car with 5000 miles on it, to the recycle bin it goes. Toss it in the quarry along with regards and watch it oxidize.
Oh, for those of you still struggling with this, I’ve found (actually, Merriam-Webster did) some acceptable options for you.

No offense to M-W, but none of these are proper replacements for “omnibus” in its role as a word describing the repackaging of an entire body of work or collection of related materials - they don’t include the “this is a collection of previously separate things” aspect.
I’d be okay with retiring the word from uses not referring to omnibus literary/cinematic collections, though.
An omnibus sounds like one of those Euro buses that cities kept trying out. They’d get these contracts to buy European transportation ideas that were going to revolutionize this country. The omnibus had the best Europe had to offer. French styling, Italian reliability and German flexibility.

Yeah, none of those words would fit the threads that currently exist. I mean, sure, you can not call them an omnibus thread, but it’s a useful shorthand than having to type out “____ that aren’t important enough for their own thread or that happen so often would take over the forums page if we didn’t keep them all in one thread.”
I mean everyone complained about the Trump threads before. Isn’t it better that we keep them contained somewhat?
I was going to start a thread to express my appreciation of all these new omnibus threads that have the potential to reduce the number of threads started by some of the diaper-pooping yung’uns who have lately infested these parts, so I must thank you for this furkin’ ominbus thread to end all omnibus threads. Now I can put my thoughts here instead.
Omnibus threads are an excellent container for the excretions of said yung’uns, who seem to excrete a new thread on the average of about every half hour or every time they believe they’ve thought of something that will benefit the world (like the true nature of Truth, expressed truthfully), or even sooner if they’ve been fed beans or Mexican food. The exception is that they will start a new thread to announce that an entire half hour has elapsed and they still haven’t thought of anything. In the event of this exception, it may take the form of a question in GQ (“Why haven’t I thought of anything to post about in the past 30 minutes?”) or the premise of a debate in GD (“Resolved: that my existence in the past half hour is as existentially meaningless as a swarm of self-replicating nanobots”).
It ultimately boils down to the basic question, “why do I exist?”, which the poopy-diapered yung’uns are actually reluctant to pose for fear of the obvious answer: “because no one has killed you yet”.
I would, at any rate, like to express my support for omnibus threads that may attract their attention for a while. ETA: The above is obviously raging rampant optimism. Our yung’uns almost never post in omnibus threads. This is something we must strive to change, however. It’s the concept that I endorse.
I think I’ve got a new go-to apology: “Sorry, I are-tarded.”
As an omnipotent omnificent omnivore, I do appreciate the Omnibus threads. I’m including Mini-Rants and “Stupid [Category] of the Day” threads.
Seriously, if someone started a new thread every time they got upset about yet another Evil Publican or Oblivious Granny Driver, the whole Pit would basically be minor annoyances and screeds against members of a Greedy Old Party.
But can we work “Morgenstern” in somehow, to show our appreciation for his hard work and dedication in supporting the word omnibus? A PM every time a new omnibus thread is started? An asterisk in the OP with a link to Morgenstern? There must be some way we can repay him.
