The One Hundred Most Influential People In History Elimination Game

The poll doesn’t end until Thursday. Maybe Jesus can pull out another miracle.

Beware of zombie Jesus!

I’m still uncertain of the criteria.

In any case, I cast my vote for Siggy Freud.

I laughed.

Curtis has said to vote for whomever had the largest negative influence. Those are his rules, not mine. He seems to be of the belief that if you whittle down everyone with large, negative influences, you’ll be left with the best (and most positively influential to humanity).

Unfortunately, some people are capable of having both positive and negative influences. We’ll likely be left with Pasteur or something.

Emperor Asoka - FOR THE WIN!

Who is Hart and where can I find discussion of his actual list, anyone?

ETA: never mind.

You make me laugh in every thread I see you in.

Vote Jesus, based on your rules.

Another vote for Jesus. Tho even if he did exist, it’s not clear that was as influential as whoever had the bright idea of hiding the body! :stuck_out_tongue:

It’s a shame Jesus has to take the fall AGAIN , but I’ve gotta vote for him (if only for Pat Robertson and Jerry Fallwell alone).

Little known fact: This exact phase was uttered by Pontius Pilot’s executive assistant!

Since the criterion right now seems to be net negative influence, I’m going with Hitler.

However, Curtis seems destined for a small measure of immortality himself. We already have Godwin’s Law, which states that “As an online discussion grows longer, the probability of a comparison involving Nazis or Hitler approaches 1.” Similarly, the assertion that “as a discussion of negative influences on history proceeds, the likelihood that Jesus Christ’s name will be invoked approaches 1” can be dubbed LeMay’s Law.

I didn’t notice, but is Barabbas on the list? Pity we didn’t start this earlier, it would have been appropriate for Easter weekend.

I won’t do your Googling or Wikipedia’ing for you, but I’ll mention that there’s a (bootleg?) pdf copy of his latest book (Understanding Human History) available on the Internet. I downloaded and read it; my respect for Hart plummeted dramatically. I’m no fan of “all races are identical” political correctness, but Hart’s latest book is full of faulty science, half-truths and racist tripe.

Well. Never mind my response then!

Can I steal this for my sig?

Curtis, if it makes you feel any better, I don’t think people are insulting Jesus himself, (he was a pretty good guy), but that his influence lead to a lot of destruction in the world. Let’s face it: religious fanatics can be destructive. Not just Christian ones, or Muslim, or Jewish, or, Hindu, the Aztecs, etc. Fanatics are fanatics.

Marx doesn’t go back far enough in history. And as one of my professors said (a guy who actually LIVED in Soviet Russia), don’t look on Marx as the boogeyman. He was basically an old crank who’d haunt the libraries in London, annoying everyone around him and he smelled funny.
As for my pick? Hell if I can think of JUST ONE. If we only knew the name of the person who invented the wheel.

If it’s possible I would like my vote to be considered an insult to Jesus.

Thank you

Just letting you know that I’m insulting Jesus, too.

Thanks for taking the time to read this.

Copy cat

Which is why we should next vote St. Paul off the island.
