The one-syllable thread

The post on top of mine reads well, due to the fact most of the words do not seem strained. Still, “those orange roots” is an odd thing to say. But we know why you have to say it like that. Rules are rules.

The way I talk, this word breaks the rules.

If so, you could say: “a shade like red but not as dark.” So where once we had:

I don’t know if I have tried those orange roots though.

Now we have:

I don’t know if I have tried those roots a shade like red but not as dark though.

Does that work for you?

If a fox is red and hair is red, I do not see why the roots we eat can’t be red as well. They for sure were ere that new word came to our speech when that new round fruit came in. (Well, in the past there were types that were not red at all, but white or such, but I will leave that point aside.)

Bold mine.

Did not hit it by that much.

Just when I think I am good at this thread! I am sure I meant to say “I will leave that point to the side.”

There’s more than one way to say/write most things. I don’t care what words are used; all I did was note that one that was used broke the rules, as we are wont to do in this thread.

The way I say that word most of the time does fit in this thread, but I guess if I gave it more thought when I wrote it, I would have picked some words that were more in line with the rule. I do try to write prose in this thread that does not seem strained. Not like some of the posts in here that sound like cave man talk or that Chan sleuth. You can use words like “I” and “the” and still stick to the thread’s rule.

We drove east last week to see Mom and sis. Slept in a lot, ate meals both with and without the fam. Gifts were had.

This morn, we drove to a town to eat at a place, but when we got there there was no place to park, and the place had a long line, so we drove back and ate near here (“here” is the place we rent this week).

In about twelve hours we drive back west, meet my half bro at his place, and then on back home the next day.

Oops.

See, it’s two words, that just looks like one word.

I went to church not long past break of day, then had lunch at home with my wife and two of my sons. In time we went to see old but quite good art by a skilled dead guy from Spain who wore striped shirts a lot, and of whom lots of folks have now heard. Some more time passed, and then I went to a bar to play a game of odd facts with friends. At the end, our team was just one place shy of first. So we did not win, but still we had a lot of fun.

I think you do well at this game. That is why I like your posts a great deal. (Of course, I do not mean to slight posts you did not write. Some, but not all, of those are quite nice too.)

This is more hard than it looks. (I’ve had to check this post and change words three times so far. No, four! Did I get them all?)

Some are. Some too are the hue you get when you mix red and blue. I grow some like that; the ones I grow taste good and sell well. I like their name, too, but if I write the name here I’ll break the thread rule twice.

I thought I would write an app that checks a piece of text to make sure that it fits the thread rule. But I would need a list of good words, and I have not yet found one that works. All the ones that I have found seem to leave some words out. But it may be that some folks would think it is a cheat to use such an app, so I guess it’s just as well to do it without such help, as I’ve done so far.

One more try: this day we drive to see my half bro. He lives in the North of a large rust belt state, near a big lake. They are known for a fire where one would not think there could be fire. At least six times. We will eat, talk, then sleep.

Next day we will drive home, have a New Year’s Eve which will end at ten, 'cause we are old. Then we will sleep in, which will be nice.

I think you meant to say “with no help.”

Yes of course, that’s just what I meant. I think one of my pets stepped on my keys while I typed.

This is more hard than you’d think.

It is.
