The one-syllable thread

May this be a good use for AI?

And then there is this:

"Buff buff Buff buff buff buff Buff buff."

But but but … I don’t get it.

I think that guy or gal wants you to think of this old trope: that in our tongue, words can be used this way or that, and in one quite weird case, there is a string of sounds with the same word eight times, and it still makes sense in our tongue. That word is – a big beast from the Old West, which shares its name with a town in New York.

I do get it. My own “but but but” was meant to play off his “buff buff buff …”. hence the wink →

I am sad that this was not made clear.

ETA: But yes, Drake just down from me is right: you have made a great post. Hail the man from Home!! You have shown me.

That was so well done. I wish to shout words of praise: I laud you.

As do I!

I walked to the Lowe’s near my house to buy bird seed and a new light tube. But this Lowe’s does not sell bird food no more. One day ago I went to the store with the red round thing on their sign, which is near my house too, and they too do not have bird food now. That makes me mad. Do I buy some from the big store on the net? Or drive to a store more far from here to buy it?

But Lowe’s at least had light tubes. They don’t seem to have the kind that use a gas, just the new kind that use chips that glow. But oh well. I bought one and went home. I thought I had to change a tube in the room where I park my car, 'cause it just went buzz and did not light. But then I twist it a bit and it lit. So I guess I did not need a new light tube. Bah, the whole trip was a bust. Do I take the tube back? No, I will keep it. One day I will need it.

In the cold part of our land the new word from smart bird folks is that to put seed out is bad, not good, for the birds. It makes birds that should go south stay up north too long and then they starve or freeze when they eventually do leave and find no food on their late trip south.

So stores now not with seed that did have it back in Fall might be due to that.

It might not work in your old lamp, if your old one was made for the old type of tube. Some old ones will work with some new tubes; but not all of them will match.

Yikes! Five! Or four. But too – whoops, I can’t use that word!

What if one puts bird seed out, but not til New Year or so, so that birds that should go south will have done so by then? Fall would seem the wrong time to have it; that’s when they should choose to leave.

Was the sign lit & said Hot & Now? That is when to go to that place but I never knew them to sell bird food…unless it was 'cause a gull took it from you.

Crap! It was a late add and I did a dumb thing.
Thank you!

I made sure to buy the kind that can go where the old kind went with no change, not the kind that you need to move the wires for. So I think this kind will work. At least I hope they will work.

Ha! I wish we had that place near here. No, of course I meant the big box store with the round red thing.

I’m sure some birds will eat what that place sells, but it’s not bird food and not good for them.

It’s a real nice day here, on the last day of this year. Soon my wife and I will take a walk. I think we will walk down to the beach. She has had some pain in her knee for a while, due to loss of that stuff in your knee that pads the bones. We saw the doc last week and one thing he said was she should use poles when she walks. So she will try that on this walk and we’ll see how it goes.

The day had fog at first; lots of fog. By ten it was gone and a warm to hot day came next. Off to the beach after lunch for first food: ground beef, swiss, and sharp root veg on rye then put on the flat grill to melt and brown: Yumm! Ate with thick red sauce from Heinz. Or was it Hunt’s? No diff.

Now home and clean. Sun is just down. Stars are next up in the sky show. Looks so nice.

Night meal out with some drink is my next move then back home ere the dumb hordes form vast crowds of dumb then they barf.

What’s a one syllable word for “blasphemy”?

You will eat lunch first and then you will go to the beach? That sounds quite nice. I don’t go to the beach much; each beach near me tends to have lots of rocks, not so much sand.

As for me, I shall cook some more. I have made sweet treats for the New Year; now I chop bok choy. I won’t cook the bok choy right now, but will use it for stir fry* soon. It takes less space in the fridge if I cut it up. And my fridge is sort of full.

(*) Is this fair? Some might say “stirfry” is one word.

This day suck. Thought get out 'fore norm time, but noooo. Scope of sky lots of hues, dense rain, plus light & noise from sky, too. I did want to go out 'fore it did start but work too late.
Also (new) boss not green light days off next year; he will only do 3 mo out. Much Grrrr on my part as first day I put in for is late May.

We are dull on New Year’s Eve, in bed by ten. We will sleep 'til dawn, and then the new year will be here.

But last week our son, his wife and their child came to see us for two days and that was great.

Right now it’s just past eight and I hear loud bangs up the street. Oh dear, I hope it’s not guns.

This was the day the town picks up our trash. They picked up the trash from the grey bin to put in the ground pre noon. But they should have picked up the stuff from the blue bin to melt to make new things, too. But now it is late in the day and they did not pick up the things from the blue bin yet. Most days it all gets picked up pre noon. So I brought the blue bin back into the room where I park my car. But do you think the trash man will still come? If he does he can’t get my bin now. But it should be fine. Since I was gone last week the bin still has room for more stuff. It can wait til next trash day.

I stay up til twelve. The folks who live near me will wake me up with things that go “bang” then, so there is no point to go to bed 'fore then. :frowning:

With more time to think, these sound like folks from Rick and Mort…
