This whole story needs to be read with some very heavy doses of scepticism. The stolen sword was only nineteenth-century, replacing an earlier sword stolen during the French Revolution. And neither probably had anything to do with Roland.

Well, yeah, everyone knows that the real Durandel is being wielded by a Knight of the Cross (currently Sanya), and passed down by the angels to worthy successors. It wouldn’t do anyone any good stuck in some rock somewhere.
