The Onion is taking over Infowars

This is a small ray of sunshine in a dark world.

Though they really have there work cut out to do a better parody version than the material Jones is posting on Twitter…

Maybe a Sprit Cooking show with special guest Marina Abramovici?

The new Infowars logo after The Onion takeover has an onion in the middle of the word “infowars.” I saw this on Monday when Rachel Maddow discussed this.

I’m posting this here where at least four people should see it…

I’m one of the four.

Check!
 :check_mark:

I’m not as Imgur is not viewable here and I don’t care enough to crack out the VPN.

Basically, it’s the word Infowars with an onion in place of the “o.”

You can see it here. Unfortunately it’s next to a picture of Alex Jones, so get the eye bleach ready.

The point is the new logo will tell us whether a post is from the old site or the new site.

sadly, this will be too complicated for some people. maybe even me.

Sometimes nowadays, I can’t tell the actual Onion is is the Onion. At least not without checking the address.

“Hostel takeover”

I thought the settlement stripped Jones of all of his online platforms…

I’m skeptical that Tim Heidecker’s “YES I REALLY AM A SATANIST” approach will do anything useful. The right-wing will say ‘I knew it’ and much of the left will say ‘how is this sticking it to the right???’

I’m not condemning it, but on the other hand I’m not yet sold. We’ll see.

Well, the Infowars page still shows Infowars, not Inf :onion:wars.

I need to ask a mod to modify my thread title. The transaction is still in progress.

The satirical website The Onion has a new deal to take over Infowars, conspiracy theorist Alex Jones’ far-right media company. If approved by a Texas judge, the deal would take away his Infowars microphone and allow The Onion to resume its plans to turn the website into a parody of itself.

Nice job with the logo! :+1:t4:

Done.

Just to note that that “actual mugshot” is a fake mugshot from a fake trial from a real comedy television show called “The Trial of Tim Heidecker”.

I don’t know if Alex Jones is dumb enough to believe this is real but I assume his audience is.

'Zactly. I really doubt this Onio n experiment will do what they expect. The Alex Jones audience has demonstrated they will believe absolutely anything and everything fed to them.

And there’s no realistic expectation of the Onion pulling some big reveal where later they say: “Hey, Audience, listen up! 100% of the crap you read here for the last 6 months was totally fake BS we invented.” followed by the audience bopping its collective forehead and saying “Wow, Onion, you have pulled the scales from our eyes; from now on we won’t trust everything we see on the internet.”

The Onion appears to be leaning in, with Heidecker shaving his head in an imitation of Jones and presenting a show with the tagline “YOU ARE BEING LIED TO”.

Which is brilliant, because it not only accurately captures the far-right conspiracy theorist mindset but also is correct because the channel will be literally lying to you. A neat way to get around any potential future legal actions, I suspect, as well as just plain being funny.

Fittingly, Infowars programming ended not, as he had promised Friday, with “hours of all the Sandy Hook documentation that was run by the CIA and the feds,” but with commercials. In the final hours of Infowars, Jones hawked his products: daggers etched with slogans like “liberty or death” and various drawings of Jesus; supplements he said would help his audience energize and chill, think and sleep, decalcify their pineal glands and maintain their erections, among other feats of the gummies, pills and powders; and T-shirts and faraday bags that block electromagnetic signals.

If you go to infowars.com now, it’s just a white screen with the words “Off Air”.

Sometimes the good guys win.

Sad news for those following the infowars saga- the Knowledge Fight podcast had decided to end the show. Dan and Jordan have been covering Alex Jones and related grifters for over eight years and more than a thousand episodes. Dan even acted as consultant for the plaintiffs in the Sandy Hook lawsuit. Unfortunately, it looks like the Onion takeover of Info Wars and Alex Jones’s decent into irrelevance and incoherence (seriously, his response to Trump denouncing him is literal schizophrenic Orwellian doublethink) have led them to call it quits.

My Monday and Friday commutes will no longer be something I look forward to.
