The only piece of silverware in sport never to have been won?

This is a press release put out in England by the Jockey Club.

Briefly, there is a £1m bonus for any horse that wins three top races in the coming jumps season. It makes this interesting claim about the silverware -

It’s a bold claim. Is there any other silverware that has never been won? Let’s exclude say something minted this year that hasn’t been competed for yet.

There were, and possibly still are, uphill motocross races where nobody ever reached the top of the course. Chances are that some of them offered a special trophy that’s never been awarded.

Am I the only one who was wondering why anyone would be winning eating utensils in a sport?

I won’t lie, I’m still confused.

Davis cup, Stanley cup…It’s not exactly a long stretch.

In context, I think that “silverware” just means trophy. Or possibly only trophies made out of literal silver? Or maybe all precious-metal trophies? OK, so I’m still a little confused.

Maybe it’s a British thing, over here silverware in a sporting context is a term for a collection of trophies.

Appropriate quote.

No…and I was going to submit “runcible spoon”.
