The Orville-Seth McFarlane

I hope so, because if she cheated on Ed because she was under the influence it completely destroys the dynamic of why they broke up in the first place.

It is another thing for them to argue about.

I suppose, but the problem with that is that it’s a yes or no thing. Either she cheated because she was essentially mind controlled, in which case hyuk hyuk, I guess it wasn’t anyone’s fault, or she didn’t, in which case you’re back to where you started. Sooner or later someone would call him up long distance and say “Look, we’re one more argument from open mutiny here, just tell us the truth, okay? Let me put you on speakerphone.”

I don’t think - well, I hope - that MacFarlane will never quite get Ed and Kelly back together. It’s simply more fun and allows for better writing if they don’t. (Adrienne Palicki is on record saying the same thing, so I hope MacFarlane listens to her.) Otherwise you get a Ross and Rachel situation where you have to break them up over and over to make that part of the story interesting, and once you’ve done that once or twice the viewer starts to wonder “the hell is wrong with these people? Move on with your lives.” I suppose that’s a problem with any show that lasts long enough, of course - in Star Trek: The Next Generation they had to start coming up with excuses why William Riker hadn’t been made captain of his own ship.

Count me in on the following takes:

  • The goo explosion was totally an ejaculation joke
  • I think Ed and Darulio did in fact have sex.*
  • The story was totally predictable, and quite creepy when you thought about it at all, but well-acted enough** to make it almost work.
  • More Yaphit, please.

*I’m kind of shocked, actually, that they didn’t turn the gag around and have Kelly find them together and then shoot the goo off.
**With the possible exception of the Doctor. I liked Penny Johnson on DS9, but she doesn’t show a lot of range here.

I’ll also add that the makeup job on both alien species were equal parts awesome and preposterous, which was pretty perfect.

Not sure what to think of the episode TBH. While it was funny and well acted, I am not sure whether the storyline as a whole can sustain the effects of this episodes revelations. WHat I have liked is that this show takes the best bits of TNG and runs with it. TNG’s greatest episodes were ones where things did not occur as expected, like the The Inner Light, or Lower Decks or Family, when our characters are seen as being less perfect and things don’t have a good, predictable ending. Here everything is too neat. Alara figures out what is happening and finds a cure and the erstwhile Mrs. Mercer finds a convenient excuse for her infidelity.

I would have liked it more if they had to spend days trying to avoid the effects of it as things get more and more problematic. It would have been great that if instead of implying he was in heat **Derulio ** had said something like “no, I usually avoid people when I am in heat, I only came since I was ordered to, our affair did not begin until after I was out of it.”

Perhaps she just doesn’t want to do love scenes with him.

After Darulio’s pheremones wore off this time, everyone who’d been affected was aware that they’d acted out of character. So wouldn’t Grayson now be able to tell whether Darulio had been in heat when she cheated on Mercer (“hmm, this feels familiar…”)?

I’ve never watched anything else she was a regular in, but I meant to mention that I thought she was horrible in the “Into The Fold” episode. Really, just…very bad acting. And she was no better in this episode.

YES. Yes, she absolutely would have been able to tell, and in fact she DID. When she was telling Alara how she felt about Derulio, her entire point was that how she felt this time was completely different than the last time.

She was great on the Larry Sanders show.

Well, Mercer definitely needed a shower. He’d just gotten a blue-job.

I think you mean a blue-man grope.

I suppose if we’re serious about the date-rape aspect, one could argue Mercer had been violet-ed.

That’s not even the right color. You totally blue it.

I azure you, the effort was cyan-sere.

this sounds like the discussion over "did data and yar actually have sex in the TNG “drunk disease redux” episode

and if they did could either of them consented to the act …

That’s even a question?

Does anyone else think that Isaac sounds exactly like Data? I mean like the same person exactly? I know IMDB says its a different guy, but Isaac sounds an awful lot like Brent Spiner.

Absolutely. I was sure it was Spiner when I first heard him, and it still sounds a lot like him.

He does sound eerily like Data. But that was probably the casting call for the voice actor (unless that would open up legal liability).

Absolutely, and I’m surprised there’s any debate (just as I am to learn that anyone doubts Data and Yar did the deed).

well this was discussed before she died …some friends of mine believed her when she stomps up to data at the end and says "nothing happened " and stomped away …
