The Orville-Seth McFarlane

If his name was in the opening credits, I didn’t catch it. But after a while I was thinking “this guy sounds like an alien Chris Traeger.” Then :smack:

Also, what’s the deal with the blue goo squirting from his head every time he gets caught in bed with Ed’s (ex) wife. Just an alien version of a spit-take?

It is just a shit a brick/peed himself joke. Recycled from Rodger, stolen from Spewy.

Do I just have a sick mind, or did others take it as more like that was him ejaculating?

I took it to be him ejaculating. Now I’m embarrassed.

I love the music they played when the doctor entered the blobs quarters. Very reminiscent of the music played when Mudd’s women took their drugs.

Clearly he just shot his load. Risqué humour is quite common in Seth Macfarlane productions. Remember the hand soap dance in Ted?

And if I got on an elevator and they were playing Bobby Goldsboro, I’d wait for the next car.

I have to admit Seth Macfarlane was really adorable this episode. Any one else annoyed that they didn’t go as far as Mercer actually have sex with Darulio when Grayson did and Claire had sex with Yaphit? Bit of a double standard there.

I don’t see how you could take that as anything other than Darulio ejaculating. I agree that Alara & the nurse’s solution was unethical, but considering the circumstances it wasn’t the worst idea. It’s not going to be fun once Darulio’s pheromones wear off; hopefully by then both species will agree with his findings on the artifact.

I’m okay with it. If Mercer and Darulio had actually consummated, then Grayson would shut down every argument with, “You slept with him TOO!” This way the writers can keep that particular plot element going.

I thought this was the best episode yet (and I liked all the previous ones a LOT!). And yes, Rob Lowe’s name was in the opening credits. Hey, if he can play Drew Peterson, he can certainly play this role with impunity.

I was under the impression Mercer and Darulio did have sex, the “I love your big blue head” stuff was post-coital glow. Overall, an unoriginal, predictable, somewhat by-the-numbers episode, helped by the casting of Rob Lowe (and Yahpit’s “That used to be my mom, now it’s my brother and me”) , but hurting one of the show’s core premises - that the marriage of Mercer and Grayson broke up over normal human emotions and not (maybe) the presence of alien mind-control.

And shouldn’t the bridge have a door or something?

Not one of their best programs, IMHO, due to a rather glaring omission. If Dariulo is well enough known in the Union to be trusted with a major mission like this (after all, he was the focal point of making a decision that affected two hostile species), and well enough known on earth to have access to a Naval commander’s wife, it would seem to me that his species would have been studied and this…personal problem…would have been well-known and studied and easily available to all–especially highly educated military folks who have to deal with multiple species. So while I liked the idea, that it would come from a known species that has intensive interaction with the Planetary Union (probably even a member) exceeded my willingness to believe.

I also didn’t like the Claire reaction, after playing the cool (and deadly when needed) Doctor the previous week, her portrayal of the ‘lovesick Doc’ just didn’t seem to work for me.

I did like Alara, wonder if she’ll start dating the “New Med character”, and the bits of humor were well done–but I couldn’t get past the busted premise.

I also never doubted that Mercer and Darulio had sex. A naked Darulio in Mercer’s bed, then Mercer comes out of the shower and bounces onto the bed next to him? C’mon. Plus, both Mercer and the Doc talked about being confused after the pheremones wore off.

I wasn’t crazy about the episode, but Rob Lowe was *genius *casting.

For a security officer, she sure startles easily.

I’m going to have to disagree with the ‘ejaculation’ hypothesis, if for no other reason than it doesn’t happen until after several seconds after they are interrupted.

It seems more like an involuntary startle/flee instinct, akin to a squid squirting ink or various animals regurgitating.

And also, Fox isn’t going to show a graphic alien cum shot on prime time network TV. And he wasn’t fucking her with his face.

I thought it was pretty obvious what was going on (as soon as Ed started to like Durulio) and the solution was obvious as well. Though I was thinking it might be psychic instead of chemical (and yes, pretty amazing it effects such a wide variety of species)
(Early on) While Ed may not have any say on who Kelly has sex with, he can certainly could have cited her for dereliction of duty. (though later on excusable given the circumstances and unless he wanted to charge himself)

The Elevator guy was more subtle humor than usual.

Heck, I thought “pheromones” the moment Kelly started swooning over him. Her reaction was weird and unnatural; she wasn’t acting like an adult. Adrianne Palicki’s not a bad actor, so I assumed she was acting weird on purpose.

I really enjoyed this episode. Much more content in its 44 minutes than many previous episodes, and the opening scene with Bortus was, frankly, worth the production cost of the entire series.

Maybe it was a happy accident, but the size difference between Palicki and Halston Sage kind of reinforces the seniority and age of Kelly as opposed to Alara. Adrianne Palicki is, well, big - she is as tall as Seth MacFarlane, which puts her near six feet, and she looks like she works out. Halston Sage is maybe 5’3" and might weigh 110 if she’s carrying something heavy. Whenever they share a scene together she looks like a child.

Napoleon was senior to a lot of guys shorter than he.

We just watched it tonight. Meh. Rob Lowe must have needed the money.

True, but this raises the possibility that the only reason Kelly slept with Darulio the first time was because she was under the influence of his pheromones.

Did people actually think that Derulio was doing anything other than giving Kelly a fig leaf excuse as to why she cheated on Ed? Her description to Alara of how she felt about Derulio now as compared to how she felt when she was cheating on Ed was totally different. Ed’s and Claire’s experiences matched Kelly’s experience this time. Obviously something different was going on. I think his final “maybe” was just like his realization that he was causing some serious shit: a way to sympathize what was essentially a date rape character for the viewer.

I think Rob Lowe needed the money just like Charlize Theron and Liam Neeson did: not at all. Seth has a lot of buddies he’s calling on for his show.
