The passage of time

This afternoon, I noticed that Massey’s Frozen Custard in my town is opening for the season on March 22. They’re open for about six months – from roughly the first day of spring until the first day of fall. They do a thriving business during the time they’re open. In the throes of a sultry Pennsylvania summer evening, the only thing better than Massey’s is an air conditioner.

This means that the local drive-in movie theater will open soon, too. We usually go at least once a year. It’s cheaper than a regular indoor theater and we can bring our own food and drinks. It’s fun to go for a ride in the country and sit under the stars and watch a movie. (It’s not so fun when it rains, but that’s life.)

I like spring.

Living here in Florida nothing really closes done for the season, seeing as there is only one season.

But I remember being a kid in Cleveland and counting down the days until the local ice cream shops open. It was like a signaling that summer has truly returned.
