The passing of another Doper - danceswithcats

Very sorry to hear this news. My condolences, BiblioCat.

Oh my word. I’m so sorry to hear about this. Suicide often leaves more questions than answer. May he now rest in peace. :frowning:

I am so sorry to hear of your loss. :frowning: I remember enjoying his posts.

My condolences

I’m very sad to hear this news. Danceswithcats’s username made my face squirk up into a grin every time I saw it.

Well fuck. Paul was at my wedding. He gave us a CO2 monitor and some smoke detectors. Now I’ll be sad when I see them. I hadn’t seen him in awhile because of the kids, but we always got along. He even came over to the house to help out with some electrical stuff. This just sucks. :frowning:

I always enjoyed his posts, and I’m sad to hear the news. Rest well, Paul.

I think that witch is moi. I seem to recall there were only two witches there.

That is moi. From left to right: You, thatdarncat, danceswithcats, moi, Mr. norinew, and norinew.

If you’re able to make the memorial service, hoist one and say “Hot Nuts” for me just once, would you?

I don’t remember that specifically, but it sounds like something I’d do. We used to have a sign on our bathroom door back when I was 20 or so that said “Pee Tokens” with an arrow and a coin slot (behind it was just a little box or envelope or something), and we would always joke that people had to put in pee tokens to use the bathroom. Every once in a while someone would actually put some sort of “token” to be silly. I’m sure when he said that it just delightfully reminded me of my own similar joke from all those years ago.

I’m very sorry to hear this. My condolences to all who feel his loss.

I’m so sorry for your loss. As others have said, danceswithcats was a wonderful person and I thoroughly enjoyed his posts.

:frowning:

I usually don’t post to these threads because by the time I get to the end of the thread there doesn’t seem to be anything left to say or I didn’t really know the Doper that well. Not that I knew danceswithcats well but his name was very recognizable to me, I even wondered where he was a little while ago when I was reading a thread I thought I should have seen his name in, something cat or fireman related probably.

I’m shocked to hear it was suicide. Bibliocat, as others have said, don’t play the “what if” or blame yourself game. It sounds like this was something he’d planned to do for a while and he showed he cared for you by letting you go before he did it. He probably thought it would be easier for you that way. Take care of yourself.

My sympathies to you and his family and friends.

liberty3701 and I both remember meeting the two of you at a dopefest a couple of years ago. We were happy to meet both of you, and we are sorry to hear this news.

I always appreciated his posts.

sadness

I’ve attended as many MAD dopefests as possible, and Paul was always one of the people I looked forward to seeing again.

This is heartbreaking. I don’t know what to say.

If there is a memorial dopefest on Labor Day weekend, I will be there.

My thoughts and prayers are with those who he left behind. I hope he has now found peace.

Can I ask if there is a particular charity, like maybe a local cat rescue or firefighters fund, that he may have supported where one could possibly make a donation in his name?

Sorry if it’s been mentioned already, I’ve had to read this thread in small bits and may have missed it.

I was thinking about this myself. He did leave a young daughter, and was a member of a volunteer firehouse for 30+ years. I’ve asked the executor of his estate about donations.
I don’t know if there is a fund set up specifically for his daughter.
I will find out about donations to his firehouse.

If nothing has been set up, I’m sure donations in his name to the firehouse (I’ll post the address once I’ve cleared it) will be appreciated, otherwise you could always send something to your local SPCA or Animal Rescue League. All of his cats were strays or rescue kitties.
