Hello all. Long time reader/1st time poster here. I must admit that this is the only website that I visit at least once a day. But I digress…
In the movie, both Billy Tyne and Linda Greenlaw are swordfish boat captains. But, they are both wearing hat’s with the names of farm equimpent company’s. Does John Deere or Catapillar(sp?) make boat engines? I guess my MPSIMS is that I grew up in MA and even spent a great deal of time in Gloucester this past summer (while they were filming, mind you) and I dont remember seeing any farms or farm equiment. I think they were trying to represent the “Small New England Town” image and they succeded to a degree, but I believe that Gloucester seemed much more like a mill town than a farm town. I know, I know. This was pretty pointless. Now I’d like to know why the producers let Diane Lane use that annoying excuse of a New England accent…
You know whats fucking stupid??? I saw this thread this morning and purposly didnt read it because it was a spoiler and I knew that it was on pay per view (which I get free) and wanted to see it. So tonight my ex/roomie and I sit down to watch it and as it starts she fucking says, “He dies in the end”. I was so fucking pissed. I said, “Do you know I purposly didnt read a thread on my message board today because it said it was a spoiler for this movie, and now you just tell me he DIES!!!” “Oh well… hehehe.” FUCKING BITCH!
Now its still on in the other room and I am in the computer room reading this thread… knowing now that the movie sucks.
The thing that annoyed me about the movie was the amount of effort that was put in to create tension when they’re at risk, when the guy gets pulled of the boat etc. I knew they where going to die. The ending was as well known as the Titanic as the cast never tried to hid it in any interview I saw.
Where I come from most people have lost a few relatives on boats or at least been involved in a couple of hairy incidents themselves, it’s a fishing place.
I can tell you one thing for sure, it’s NOT possible to conduct meaningful conversations in those kinds of winds, on that kind of boat in that kind of water! I didn’t see the whole thing, but from what I saw they could communicate pretty readily across the whole damn boat, despite the conditions! Oh, and a few sailors have told me that the way the waves hit the boat was nothing like in real life.
Of course, I’ve never been in weather like that, but it looked kinda odd to me too.
The only good thing is that they all die in the end (I mean good for the plot, not those poor people in RL…).
