The main peril being that I’ve been on SDMB for about five hours today. At work.
A friend of mine died a week ago - he’d been clean and sober for about three years, received an honor in the community a couple weeks ago, but something drove him to the wrong choice last Saturday night and swallow, sniff, shoot something. I don’t know much about “today’s” drugs, but I hope his passing was peaceful. His family has been understandably quiet on the specifics.
After his service on Saturday, my partner and I started cooking sloppy joes for 200, to be served at a fundraiser on Sunday. (No relation to my friend, other than he’d have been at this event if he hadn’t died.) We were up until 2AM cooking the stuff.
At lunch today, I wandered into the Sony Style store. Not sure why they call it a store. I’ve never seen anyone buy something there. The whole mall (Sony Metreon) is really a failed experiment in whatever Sony was trying to do. Think they called it “retail entertainment.” The only major tenant left is Sony itself. The movie theaters are doing well, at least. It’s more a place to look at, watch, listen to and play with the latest goodies, then order 'em from Amazon.
They’ve got a new style of plasma TV - around the picture itself is a black border, then the outer frame is clear. Fairly striking and a nice change from the usual black or gray-framed displays. Even more striking was the price for the 50" version - $12,000, plus $4,000 for the stand. Yes. $4,000 for a TV stand! Granted, it was also clear and as striking as the TV itself, but…ouch!
When will this bleach-spotted, striped, pre-worn, blasted, faded, whatever fad in jeans end? It’s ugly, and occasionaly humorous - I saw someone walking along that looked as if they drank bleach, then had diarrhea. Yep - a big bleached-out spot right on the buttcrack.
My partner’s been home all day, trying to beat a migraine into submission. So far, and more Imitrex than usual, he’s not winning.
I’m still trying to figure out how to spend a $75 gift card at Nordstrom. It’s really not my kind of store. Free or not, I just can’t justify buying plain (colored, but otherwise plain!) t-shirts for $30 each. I saw a pair of black jeans for $300. Compared to that, the $120 jeans seem like a bargain. But still, nothing I’d want. Guess I’ll keep buying my jeans at Macys where they’re on sale for $35.
Speaking of jeans - how long before those Levis that look like they were drawn by Tex Avery go away? Cartoonish is the only way I can describe them.
Another hour to go before I go home… At least my partner can look forward to me being home in about an hour and a half. My friend’s partner has nobody to come home now.
