The Persistence of Memory

I have a Salvador Dali print of “The Persistence of Memory” On the print there is Dalis name and below that these words “Les Montres Molles”. The little spanish I know, I know it doesn’t mean the persistence of memory. So i looked it up. At this link

“Les Montres Molles” isn’t Spanish - it’s French. It means “The Soft Watches.” I don’t know why it’s on your “Persistence Of Memnry” print, though.

Dali had a habit of revisiting subjects. “Les Montres Molles” Was a second painting on the same idea of Persistance of memory focusing on a single melting watch decaying and covered in ants. A third study called “Montre Molle Au Moment” shows the final stage of soft watch decomposition. “Les Montres Molles” was actually painted before it’s more famous predecessor “Persistance of Memory” in which he just used multiple soft watches. All three of these were painted in a series, Persistance as a whole landscape and the other two as detail studies of the ideas.

Dali had a habit of revisiting themes or repainting them, for example Persistance was also revisted again after he saw the atomic bomb tests and started to put cubes exploding from the horizon in many of his paintings (like “The Hallucinegenic Torreador”)

Sorry I just assumed Dali being of Spanish origin that it was Spanish

I heard that the soft watches was a symble of Dali’s impotence. Is this true? I also heard that “The Persistence of Memory” was unfinished- like alot of Dalis work

The watch would i guess symblize (sic) a lot of hand-penis references. Wind 'im up, and watch 'im run down. Really really down. Drip drop drip drop drip drop the almighty penis marches on. “Hey, Sal, is that a watch in your pocket or are you just happy to see me?” “It’s a watch!”. When somebody said “time is growing short”, what does that mean, it’s cold in here and I’m shriveled up to dime-size? I hate to think what “It takes a licking and keeps on ticking” would mean.
