Not exactly.
It was written, as your link notes, by Francis Bellamy, Baptist Minister and Christian Socialist.

Can’t attack their position, eh?
What makes you think socialism = communism? Or, as you seem to imply, treason?
Reports ElvisL1ves to local FBI
What? Socialists can’t be patriots?
Ask Eugene Debs.
I remember the drive to include that blasphemous phrase in The Pledge.
I was in 3rd or 4th grade in a catholic school. I ‘signed’ the petitions put before us by the nuns. Of course we weren’t told of the origin of The Pledge, only that it needed God in it. But we were told a lot of stuff.
I also remember when the addition was approved. Did you know nuns can be orgasmic?
Anyway, I really don’t care. I just mumble.
Peace,

the way monkey boy dubya is running this country they might as well change it to “under allah.”
the original version of the pledge was fine with me, the “commie behind every tree” republicans changed it in the fifties and i am more than glad to see the non-religious version being restored.
the man behind the move also wants “in god we trust” taken off our money. the sooner the better.
one only has to look at the taliban to see what happens when you mix religion and guvmint.

One only has to look at this thread to see what happens when you allow political speechifying on the General Questions board.
