The plural of Mentos...

This has been bugging me for the longest time… I even sent a question to the people at Mentos.com, but no reply came.

Does anyone know the correct singular/plural forms of Mentos? Is it one Mento and two Mentos? Or (In terms of pronounciation) is it one MenTOS and two MenTOES? This is driving me crazy!

Any help would be greatly appreciated…

One Mento, two Mentos. Same as with most other multipiece candies such as LifeSavers, M&Ms, Skittles, TicTacs, etc.

Hey, kindred spirits! I wrote to the Mentos folks asking this once too, and actually got a reply…and promptly deleted the email. :smack: I’m thinking they said that Mentos serves as both singular and plural, and this tidbit from their website seems to confirm it:

(from the “Secrets” section here)

Hmmm, considering the website can’t even spell “peaks” correctly, I’m standing my my answer. That sentence doesn’t even make grammatical sense: either the flavor of the Mento peaks or the Mento has tiny little eyeballs and is spying on your tongue.

Has anyone been to the mentos web site with the pimped out bird? I’m baffled. It has bling.

I’m going to go with the eyeballs… Becuase it makes it just that little bit more interesting…

I guess this makes sense, but for some reason, I always want to parse Mentos as a Greek word and pluralize thusly: one gyros, many gyros; kudos is, kudos are; one Mentos, three Mentos. Of course, this is completely arbitrary, but I think it’s because when I hear the commercial, I hear an “s” sound at the end of Mentos, and not a voiced “z” sound indicating a plural.

I don’t know how to pluralize it, either, but one time I was eating Mentoes and I was able to get backstage at a concert by acting like a roadie. YMMV.
