The political ads have changed!

Reporting from three regions:

Orlando, Florida: Almost all campaign ads on TV were negative. Republican ads outnumbered Democratic ads about 4:1. A majority of the ads concluded with "Call [name of opposing candidate] here and tell [hom/her] to [stop raising taxes, stop putting big business first, stop killing baby manitees, etc.]. Very ugly.

Kansas City, Missouri: About half of the ads were negative. There seems to be a 50/50 split between the parties. About 25% include the “call so-and-so” line. About half the ads are for the Carnahan v Talent Senate race.

Buffalo, New York: Not many ads. Half negative, 50/50 Republican/Democratic, no “call so-and-so and tell them to stop throwing puppies over the Niagara gorge” ads.

But I’m voting for Norm because he won’t stop until he gets me ice cream!

We’ve been getting a lot of these where I live, in the Flint/Detroit/Ann Arbor, Michigan area.

The Republicans have been running rather annoying ads with the slogan “It’s extreme…it’s liberal…it’s Granholm!” (Jennifer Granholm is the Democrats guv candidate)

I was in Boston over the weekend and was absolutely FLOODED with attack ad’s from both sides of the fence. Mostly in the Governor’s race.

I assume you watched Boston stations then. I found it incredibly odd that the week or so leading up to the elections the Boston stations played MA and NH ads both. Usually they pretend they don’t have any viewers outside of MA

Of the ads I saw leading up to the election 95% of them were negative. Over half of them were ads were attacks on Martha Fuller Clark and John Senunu, one a dem, the other a republican, who were involved in two different races. Oddly enough, I saw more ads for the MA gov race than the NH one, even when I watched local stations they were mysteriously absent. The only person who had ads that weren’t attacking specific canidates, was the dem who ran for state rep and lost. It was a messy campaign on both sides this year.
