The political ads have changed!

Suddenly, in the last day, it seems to me as I count the annoying TV ads, that they are suddenly something like about 3 to 1 Republican! Did the Dems run out of money? I live in MN, whats it like where you are?

The radio here in the cities is saturated with Normie ads. I have yet to hear one Fritz ad. Conspiricy? I don’t know, but WTF, I’ll go with it.

This isn’t totally in keeping with the OP but it fits with the thread topic.

Watch this, and keep in mind that it is ON THE GOP WEBSITE.

In my area, it’s still mostly about how HORRIBLE the Democrats are and how wonderful the Republicans are.

Overall, not that many this year. I can think of a couple for two of the initiatives - and that’s it. And they’re pretty rare, one or two a night. Or so it seems.

Except for the week I spent in Iowa. Back to back ads. 5 or 6 in a row. From what I could tell, no local business (and very few national ones) were doing business that week - the only things being advertised were various politicians. Ads, replies to the ads, replies to the replies. Some of the scariest positive ads I’ve ever seen. Some of the most bizarre negative ads I’ve ever seen. A bunch of stuff on “Iowa Values” I have no idea what they are, but everyone cares deeply about them. (I don’t think I’ve ever seen a commercial for “Washington Values” not just this year, but ever - but perhaps I’ve blocked them out)

It was almost enough to make you vote for any candidate who promised to never, ever run another tv ad again, no matter what else she or he stood for. And I got away after a week - no idea how the people who live there are coping with the constant barrage.

With regard to the gop.com thing, apparently all the good cartoonists are Democrats.

I got a phone call yesterday morning telling me how evil Erskine Bowles is and how great Elizabeth Dole is (democratic and republican nc congressional candidates, respectively), I tried to get in a “I HOPE THEY BOTH LOSE!” before the lady hung up.

We got 5 fucking fone calls yesterday all from automated recorded messages urging us to (well, do something or 'nother).

one was from “Bob”. (there’s no “Bob” running for major office in the state, nor for a local election that I’m aware of).

grrr.

In the course of 20 minutes, I heard three ads from some third party candidate for congress I’d never heard of, telling me that VA Rep. Tom Davis (Republican from VA), isn’t really conservative, and he likes gay people and supports that transportation sales tax hike, so I shouldn’t vote for Davis, but this guy instead.

Other than that, I’ve heard Chris Van Houten’s ads against Morella. Morella’s for gun control and pro-choice, and so Van Houten is running attack ads, not against her, but against the national Republican party. “If you reelect Connie Morella, that might keep the Republicans in power, and they want to end abortions and give all the fetuses guns” or something like that.

I also got a phone call from the governor of VA reminding me to vote.

I truly believe Texas is a cut below the rest around election time. We even have our own thread on it too. So I’ll just give a couple:

Apparently only Republicans care about “bipartisanship”, and “texas values”, but the Dems. only care about “liberal special interests”.

One ad attacked a Dem. (I think it was John Sharp, or Ron Kirk, or someone) and said he was affiliated with the “Far Left”, and a picture of Hillary Clinton appeared.

Gawd.

On Friday I received a mailing touting Democrat Debra Danburg, who’s been my State Representative for ~14-16 years, with a banner saying, “Lots of Republicans Like Debra Danburg!” below a photo of Debra cheek-to-cheek with Dubya, both beaming at the camera.

This was followed by a recorded phone call from Anisse Clark, a local lesbian activist who has held elective office here, as a Democrat, asking me to vote for Debra and describing her as the pro-business candidate who will continue to fight tax increases and government waste and will preserve choice in education.

Encouraging, but odd.

I keep getting calls for “Jan”, wring.

STOP IT WITH THE AUTOMATED CAMPAIGNING!!!

If my vote was really that important to Norm Coleman, why doesn’t he have a real person call me? And not the “real” person that calls up, doesn’t ask me how I am today, and just spouts off his script with no pauses between the words. Ugh, I hate that.

And ALL the commercials I’ve seen lately at least mention Paul Wellstone.

Norm: “I grieve for the Wellstone family, but it’s time we look to the future… blahblahblah”

Mondale: “Help me finish what Paul started… blahblahblah”

I can’t wait until it’s over.

I get calls from Jan, too. There’s no Jan living here.

Maybe if I actually voted, I wouldn’t be so mad.

And maybe I would. :shrugs:

Oddly enough, or maybe not, I’ve never gotten any of these automated calls.

And Hillary Clinton of the “Far Left”. Chortle, snicker. Yeah right, the Lenin of Wellesley.

Just saw something on one of the newsie cable: the Dems have run out of money! They’re sending what they’ve got left to the really close races. All 50 of them? Meanwhile, guess who’s swimming in bucks. Go ahead, guess.

In California’s Governor’s race the two candidates started right out on the attack. Dem. Governor Gray Davis’ people blamed Rep. Bill Simon for costing “us” billions in the bailout of his failed savings and loan (failing to mention that “us” wasn’t Californians only, but diffused among “US”) and suggested he was guilty of fraud because another company he had a hand in was accused of fraud by the USPS. As far as I know that case has not been settled, nor was Simon directly in charge of the accused company.

Simon’s people in turn blamed the California energy crisis on Davis, and used a series of editorial headlines flashed as if they were news headlines expressing every negative opinion about Davis’ tenure as Governor as if it were a factual item and not some Republican’s opinion.

Now that they’re down to the short strokes Davis’ ads have concentrated more on his own accomplishments and less on vilifying Simon, while Simon’s camp is accusing Davis of being responsible for everything from low education scores (they’ve been going up steadily) to how long it takes to get to work in the morning.

I haven’t yet heard either candidate expound on what he will do to improve education or energy resources or pollution control or…

I have voted for both Democrats and Republicans in the past. Just once I would like to see the positive campaign they all promise. If any of them could keep that promise, maybe there’d be at least a hope that they’d keep all their others. I’m not holding my breath.

Geezer
“Politicians are interested in people. Not that this is always a virtue. Fleas are interested in dogs.” – P. J. O’Rourke

I did get an e-mail last week by the Democratic National Committee saying that they were all but out of funds.

This past weekend’s Saturday Night Live had some fake political attack ads. It was eerie how close to the real ads these skits were.

On the other hand, I find that SNL’s Weekend Update is often no less truthful than the actual newscasts on Corporate Television.

TV and Radio are saturated with Political Spots, for every single candidate, I work at a Printing Company - We have been printing for everyone, needless to say I’ll be so glad when Nov. 5 is here already.

I fucking hate those Norm ads featuring his daughter. Jesus christ how I loathe those ads.
