The Post T-Day MMP

Back from being magnetized and microwaved. And yes, those things are just as noisy as I remember.

They sent me off with pictures - as far as I can tell, someone slipped a bunch of abstract art into the envelope instead of actual images of my spine. It’s all gray blobs to me. My name is in the corner of each image, so they are apparently actually my gray blobs . At least they’ve finally moved away from the anachronistic use of film. MRI is completely digital - the only reason images were ever put onto Xray film was tradition and inertia. Now, they’re printed on paper, using large photo printers.

Here and leaving. Off to PA for T-day. Happy turkey and leftovers everyone!

Another  for TH. Sounds like reason # eleventy billion forty-three why you don’t want to be married to him, rigs. Also: excellent list. Should be shared with all medical practice staff. My current doctor is part of a practice who appears to have read that list. Nothing but nice, so far.

Yay on Himself’s new job!!!

We’re now expecting a dinner invitation so that we can inspect the new china, gotti.

Ack! I’ll be hosting Thanksgiving after all. Local Best Friend’s FIL died suddenly last week. They were gone much of the past week. Stepson is suddenly spending T-day with them instead of with his Mom. We’re doing mega-relaxed, but at my house.

Guess I should make sure the house is habitable. We’re predicting Turkey Breast in crock pot. Rice. Stuffing. Sweet potatoes. Dunno yet what else.

Gotta go clean.

Lunch, while your suggestion is brilliant, I have to face the reality that it’s winter over here and it’s been frakkin’ cold lately. There’s SNOW on the ground, even.

As much as I like shirtless construction workers flexing their manly biceps while they fix my garden, they lose some of their appeal if they’re looking a little blue around the edges and their teeth are chattering harder than castanets at a flamenco school for Parkinsons patients.

(also, they replanted the bushes while I was at work today… all in the wrong spots and clustered much too close together, but I suppose it’s better than nothing… moral of the story - don’t trust the guy who fixes gas mains for a living to know the first thing about garden design)

snowbunny, you’ve now been schooled in lesson #1 of cat horking - they will ALWAYS hork in the one most inconvenient place. Ours like to hork on the stairs, because it happens to be the only place in the house that’s carpeted. Og forbid they hork on something easily cleaned like the hardwood floors. At least bath mats are washable.

Yay for Himself finding gainful employment, Smartypants! that’s great news!

Not to mention <ahem> shrinkage!

So we’ve gone from layoffs to people dropping dead. :frowning: This has been a horrible month. He was only in his late 40’s. His poor family, right before Thanksgiving. I hope December is better.

So sorry, Shadow. How sad for your co-worker’s family. :(:(:frowning:

One comment I forgot. So sorry about your garden, Muppet. I’ve never had anything happen quite on that scale, but I tend to take it very personally when anyone messes with stuff I’ve planted. On the brighter side, if the ground hasn’t frozen, you could still plant more bulbs if you can find them and are so inclined. And bill the gas company.

I’ve put books and bookshelves all back in their homes. Yay! I’ve been meaning to do so for a while, but hadn’t got to it. Feels very nice to have it done.

Off to read a bit and then it’s time for beddy-bye.

Hugs to all who need them.

Mahna, this is not my first experience with a horker. It’s just that she’s been so perfectly good about everything else, I thought perhaps she might take pity and hork on the easily cleaned bathroom floor. Silly me. She is a cat. Not only that, she’s Siamese. It’s her job to make my life interesting!

Hey! :frowning: Everyone liked my MMP with recipes… humph.

Hi folks- been kinda quiet lately… no one miss me?

I’m cooking Thanksgiving- in fact I started tonight.

My Menu:

Maple Glazed turkey
Leek-herb stuffing
Maple-glazed sweet potatoes
Root vegetable puree (potatoes, carrots, parsnip and pear)
Gravy
Homemade cran sauce
Jelled and ridged cran sauce
Squash pan rolls
Crescent rolls
Olives, pickles etc
Cinnamon apple pie
Pumpkin pie
Mulled cider

I made the apple pie tonight and the rolls are in the oven now.

Hope everyone is well!

Specially to people who know how to spell “blood pressure thingy” properly  My BP is 100/60 when it’s high - I feel your pain! There’s been times they’ve pumped the cuff so high it felt like I was going to get a bruise all around my arm.

Years ago I found out something totally mundane and pointless about BP measurements. Whenever I’d had my BP measured in Europe, I’d gotten something like 10/4 or 9/5 back; when I got to the US everything suddenly grew extra zeros.
Now, the machines are the same all over the world. When Bro gave his soon-to-be-wife a “doc’s bag” complete with BP-thingee, she explained to us (she explains these things as if they were the most important thing ever) that it had taken her a while (read, a couple months) to learn how to read the BP because they’re expected to take the final zero off and she insisted on reading the actual number on the actual machine - the Prof would explain that, due to the custom of taking off that zero, someone would explode before getting a high of 110… a reported 110 would be 1100 in the machine and that isn’t in the scale, so Get The Zero Off Young Lady. It’s been some 15 years since she took that class and she still reckons that taking off the zero just because it’s been done for generations Isn’t Proper.

{{{{{{Shadow}}}}}}, hot tea with lemon for Haze, a  for rig’s husband and a YAY! for Smarty’s.

:: sips hot lemon tea ::

I’m sorry to hear about your co-worker’s family, Shadow. :: hugs ::

My voice sounds human now, if not quite up to my regular dulcet tones. I have a million errands to run today, and one of my friends at work is leaving for a term break, so I have a drinking tryst tonight as well. Today’s my day off but everyone else is teaching so of course we won’t even be able to meet up until after 10pm. Eek.

Home, tired. I’m doing Cornish Hen for T-Day, after work. Should I do traditional, or Cajun style?

: sees rigs : Heeelllllllooooooooo Nurse! Thrak isn’t a hornker. On the other hand, Lucretia was a feline Linda Blair.

{{{{{Shadow}}}} Sorry about you co-worker.

{{{{{Pie}}}} Go luck with the job, and when come back, bring self.

FCM, you dream executed another man? I thought we had something special. :(

Hi Haze!!!

SDMB has been wonky for me since last night, dunno why but others seem to be having problems too. Hope they can clear them up!

This is pretty much a drive-by; up and caffeinating to go to work so will hopefully be able to leave a bit early today. Get away day is always pretty awful commute wise.

Gentle hugs and get well wishes to all who need/want them!

The OP was fine! 8 more pages of the same… isn’t there a rule against staying on-topic beyond page 1 of the MMP, or something?

I thought you were being quiet because someone hit you!

Then you get to reward the best looking / hardest working one by offering to warm him up

That’s awful :frowning: Poor family :frowning: :frowning:

**Aleq **-- yay on Himself getting what looks like a Dream Job!

Hi Haze, Hi Nava!!

Happy Turkey-day to all the Amurkins!

Me? I’ve narrowly escaped galivanting overseas again this week. The price is I’ll probably be sleeping 3 nights in a Polish hotel next week.
Envy me.

At least in about two weeks they’re disappearing for a long Christmas/New Year’s vacation – after which the project should be far enough completed that one of our integrators will be doing the jetting around!

Oh, shadow… that’s so sad

I swear that I will start a journal or blog or something after this.

Things are very surreal here. TH awoke me at 0530 to ask me if I was awake (no) and to tell me that WE should have Tgiving, just the two of us and the boys (Daughter is spending the holiday with family friends in New England). He did preface it with “I know this is short notice, but…”

Too much, too little, too late. Plus, we had already RSVPed to his parents. Plus it’s likely to be his Dad’s last Tgiving (although we have said that for the past 3 years).

With all that (and the fact that for 21 years I had to fight, and I do mean fight, for any non MIL tradition/time/custom), he again didn’t listen when I told all these things–he is set on Tgiving here, “given our conversation[emails] this week.”

I refused to do this: it would be rude to his parents, the work involved etc. He said to me that “as always, it’s not good enough for you.” (which is a first–for him to open up even that much is telling, but I digress)

I finally had to say to him, “I think we need to let some things go.” He didn’t understand that so I had to explain that I also am feeling the impulse to hold on to some things, but that we both have to realize that some things have to be let go of. He saw the sense of that.

Please don’t tell me I am going to have to prop him up and teach him how to get divorced on top of everything else. I don’t have the strength (or patience).

Ok, enough of this. I promise to not treat the MMP as My Diary anymore. I was just thrown off kilter by being asked to produce Tgiving dinner the day before. I have to go into work for a bit, then I’m going to try to finish my Xmas shopping. Oh, and my MIL was um, inaccurate: my SIL is not cooking Tgiving dinner; the club is and she is bringing it down in cartons.

ETA: Truly, I am reading the other posts. Glad to see HazelNut back and better. That is too sad BlueShadow.
I don’t have any recipes to share right now–not in the mood, really. (sorry).

Good morning! Hi everyone!

Very sad news, BlueShadow.

Yay for a great job for Himself, Smartie!!

rigs, I, for one, certainly don’t mind you venting here. I encourage it! We are your friends, even though we’re “virtual.” I would hug you right now, if I could. Divorce sucks, even when it’s for the best. It’s hard to change your life, and holidays make it worse. Still, how clueless is he to suggest Thanksgiving the day before?! Did he want a frozen turkey?

I got the kitchen clean yesterday, and I’m gearing up to do all the prep work. Here’s my to-do list:

Brine the turkey, a la Alton Brown
Boil the giblets for the gravy
Make cornbread for the dressing
Clean the fresh green beans
Make Pecan Cream Cheese pie
Make Pumpkin Pie
Assemble broccoli/rice casserole

That’s not so bad! I think I’ll take the dogs to the park this morning. It’s beautiful, if a little chilly, but they’re calling for rain later, or maybe tomorrow.

Have a great day, Mumpers!

Well, I now feel comfortable discussing this, because it appears our desired outcome won’t be happening. Overall, however, the results come with our approval, as justice is being served.

Y’all remember the tale of Sharon, the Felonious Housekeeper? She was stealing VWife’s prescribed Percocets for about a year, and selling them to her dealer in exchange for crack. To recap, in September, she made a big grandstand play for her housekeeping fee in advance for the month, then disappeared to a rehab clinic for a 3 month stay.

Now, the untold story. Late September, VWife and I were in Wally*World in Franklin (VA), and guess who we run in to. VWife nearly had a stroke when Sharon took our cleaning fee and ran, so I warned her off. When I was by myself, I asked Sharon how rehab was going, and she blew a gasket on her own. I was so eeeevilly pleased with myself… :stuck_out_tongue:

We hemmed and hawed a bit about what to do. I’m in a position where I know most of the Cottonfield County Sheriff’s Department and 2 of the 3 magistrates, so we kept up with Sharon’s soap opera and all the warrants out for her arrest. Finally, in the later part of October, we found out she had made bail and was out of the clink for the time being, but should any further charges come up, she would be unbondable. We struck, filing a criminal complaint for theft of narcotics AND a small claims proceeding for the cleaning fee, the estimated cost of the pills purloined, and nuisance punitive damages.

Then, in a move that surprised me a bit, VWife turned around and refered the small claims action to Judge Joe Brown. They were very interested.

This week, we found out that Sharon was finally served on our original small claims suit, but it was in the middle of a large stack of criminal warrants, all for other counts of narcotic theft, including 6 from Hertford County. Her big ol’ butt is wearing orange and sitting in the Hertford County Jail, unbondable and there to stay. We won’t be going to LA to be on JJB, dammit.

Karma’s a bitch. Tee-hee.

ETA: I made a big pan of cornbread last night to become turkey stuffin, and bought 2 new buckets to brine turkeys. The Turkey Fairy will be busy making 2 dinners for tomorrow: one for The VunderLair, and the other for Fred and family as a semi-surprise.

Wow, that’s great, VBob!! Justice is served.

And that’s right nice of you to fix a turkey dinner for Fred and family. You’re a great neighbor.

Annoying Coworker just spent the last hour complaining about how there must be a quicker, easier, less manual way to handle a task she’s been given. This is on top of the hour she wasted yesterday doing the exact same thing. *

Of course, it probably could’ve been done manually in the same amount of time she spent trying to find the easy way to do it.

…and now she’s on the phone calling caterers for her daughter’s birthday party and getting quotes for house painters. Yeah, that’ll really help her get that magical Excel macro she wants to do her work for her.

*(In case you’re curious, there isn’t. I should know, considering I passed off the goddamn task to her because it’s manual and time-consuming, and she’s sitting on her bum with nothing to do… in the meantime, I’m working on something even more boring and manual and time-consuming)
