The Post T-Day MMP

::waves extra-cheerfully at Soapy:: (Did I mention your menu sounded yummmmmmmy?)

Cheese ball is in the fridge. Sweet potatoes are cooked. Dishes are put away. Need to wash a couple of pans and then I could start the stuffing.

Boiled aigs in gravy, swampy? How?

Back to the kitchen I go…

De-lurking to tell Latest Horrible Almost-Ex SiL Story- we talked to BiL today, and it turns out that she may, may, allow her son to come to our family Christmas thing, but she is not going to come herself (sob) unless her mommy comes with her to protect her from Mr. Lissar! Because she’s afraid he’ll be mean to her, and cause a scene!

Her mother.

She’s twenty-eight. She’s an emotionally abusive adult who is refusing to go somewhere (to which she hasn’t been invited, I might add), because Mr. Lissar told her off once, after years of watching her be viciously bitchy to her husband. She has to bring her mommy, even though it was fine for BiL to spend years surrounded by her pushy, horrible, screamy family telling him how worthless he was, because she can’t stand the idea of going alone.

She’s just amazing.

Happy Turkey Day, Murkins!

Off to caffeinate, get HRH de-poopified and dressed and get myself ready for work!

I worked, the Canes lost, I’m working tomorrow.
Menu tomorrow:
Martini
Cornish Hen with dogbutler’s secret spice recipe
Rice-A-Roni[sup]TM[/sup] long grain and wild rice
Stove Top[sup]TM[/sup] stuffing
green beans
Kroger jellied cranberry sauce
Yuengling
Dotty, you’re one hour and 8 minutes early, but thanks!

LLi, that’s sad. I have a cousin doing about the same thing.:frowning:
gotti, I had two hours of sleep last night. :stuck_out_tongue:

rigs, that’s sad about the girl.

Oy, could be worse. I just found out that the crew is working tomorrow until 6 PM. Perhaps a prerequisite for being a theater tech is to have no family and no social life? I hope we’re taking good care of these people!

My eyes are all burny from a mix of not enough sleep and all of the onions that DH minced for the stuffing. Technically, it’s dressing as it won’t be cooked inside the bird. But, the kitchen is clean, a last load of dishes is washing and we have The List, complete with cooking start times, giving hope that tomorrow will go smoothly.

Trust me - having a list of EVERY dish, down to “open the can and pour the cranberry sauce into a bowl” with start times is equivalent to at least one Valium as you’re not running around fifteen minutes before dinner, panicking because the green bean casserole didn’t get into the oven. And where’s the gravy?!

Happy Thanksgiving, those of you who have it

Rigs, that’s an awful story :frowning:  Too many sad stories happening to young people (40 is young, dammit!!) lately :frowning:

Li-li, that’s just 27 kinds of crazy

:Waves at **Ivory **in the corner :):

Me, I’ve got nuttin’.

Happy Turkey Day, Amurkins!

Happy every day, non-Amurkins!

I’m in the main office of one of the biggest electrical companies in the world, receiving IT training.

The power in our building has gone out several times this morning. The first three times, the server held on, but apparently its UPS has run out or something…

You find the oddest things on the internet at 3 am. Like this, for instance. The world is full of weird and (occasionally) wonderful people.

Happy Thanksgiving to those who are so inclined! Happy Thursday to the rest o’ ye!

I’ve been awake about an hour, but just up and about half that long. Doggies have been out and fed. Kitteh has been removed from the table for the first time today - he refuses to understand that we don’t want his feet and/or butt on our dining room table, or the kitchen counters. Eeeeeevil kitteh!

In about 20 minutes, I’m going to start heating the oven for the french toast casserole. Those who aren’t up by 8:30 will eat warmed-over breakfast. The bird goes in the rotisserie around 10:30-ish. I need to check time and temp for the rest of the stuff to coordinate it all. Today’s biggest cooking jobs will be smashed N.O.T., gravy, and sprouts (swampy, no need to make rude comments about fart blossoms…) Our last side will be succotash, which means I’ll dump corn and limas into a pot and nuke 'em with some butter. Easy-peasy. Dinner will be around 1:30 or 2.

I heard from 2 work friends yesterday - they may be coming to our open house on Sat. Yay. I haven’t seen Tony in 4 years, and longer than that for Mike. I met them and know them thru a classified chat room at work, which explains why I haven’t seen 'em yet I still communicate. In fact, I chat at Mike just about every day. He’s in a situation similar to mine - he’s had to delay his retirement, altho just a year or so for him, compared to my 7 year extension…

Anyway, today should be a nice, easy day. There’ll be 6 sets of hands to share the duties and no one has to go anywhere, so we can chill and graze as desired. I may or may not be able to post during the course of the day. Gives me an air of mystery, huh? And it gives you something to look forward to.

Gobble Gobble Gobble!!!

Happy Thanksgiving!

I am thankful for-

My wonderful family, puppy and kittens.

My parents improving health (my mom is finally getting over her shingles)

Having two stable jobs (my husband myself) in an unstable economy

Gas at $1.89!

Snow.

Good friends, near and far

The people I love and who love me.

Off to cook!

Happy Thanksgiving and happy Thursday. I’m up and caffeinating, getting ready to get started (well more like continue) with Turkey day preps. I baked the pumpkin pie and the sweet potatoes for that casserole last night. I’ll head into the kitchen shortly to snap fresh green beans for that casserole as well as make preps for the stuffing. For some reason, I always end up with more filling than will comfortably fit in my pumpkin pie crust, so I just put the extra in paper cups in a muffin tin, like mini pumpkin custards I guess. I got 6 minis. I’ve still got to: make the stuffing (Pepperidge farms, so that’s not too bad), mash sweet potatoes and make the casserole of that, put together the green bean casserole after I blanch the beans, prep the turkey and slide that into the oven. Dinner will probably be around 3 PM or so.

Hope everyone enjoys their holiday; if not a holiday, hold on the weekend is almost here.

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffienatin’. I actually slept in til 7:30!

I’d get all fancy with this but I’m not inclined to, so…

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!!

I’m not quite as organized as gotti but everything that needs to be baked is prepped and ready to go. Mr. Ham is done cause I popped him in the oven before beddy bye last night and set the oven to turn off when the timer went off. My oven is all magic like that. So all that needs to be baked is the dressin’ and sweet N.O.T. casserole. I wasn’t gonna make that but decided to rather than ask somebody to bring one bein’ as I had a bunch of sweet N.O.T. fresh from the field even. Mr. Turkey shall commence fryin’ around 10:30.

Oh, and let the record show that it was MOOOOOOM not me that said fart blossoms. :stuck_out_tongue:

Ok, need more caffiene and some brekkies. 'Twill be cereal.

Hi guys!

Happy Thanksgiving!!!

gt, yep boiled chopped aigs. You put 'em in at the last. If they’re cold, stir for a couple minutes to let 'em heat through. If they’re warm cause you just boiled 'em, just stir 'em in. Why? Well, cause it’s traditional southern style giblet gravy and they do make the gravy a little more rich. After all it’s for a feast so the more calories the better!

Grrrrr. I just figgered out the hard way that 2 turkeys won’t fit in our oven at the same time, regardless of the roasting pans used. Fred’s bird goes first, so Casa VunderLair won’t be eating until at least 4. :smack:

LiLi, Mr. Lissar needs to hang the STBXSIL up in the dojo as a heavy bag for roundhouse practice.

Up and at 'em.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING, everyone!

Heh. That’s amusing, Nava.

Awww, LiLi, that stinks. But doesn’t surprise. :frowning:

Huh. Boiled eggs in gravy are a new one on me. Maybe I’ll try that sometime. No giblets this year, though, so not possible today.

This sums up my Thanksgiving list, I think. Cuz without this, the good job, nice house, everything else, wouldn’t really have a purpose. ::Raises cup of cafe con leche in a toast to family and friends::

Turkey is in the crockpot. Gotta go do stuffing and finish sweet potatoes. Then general housecleaning. Then vegging till company comes. (They’re not due till after 5:00 sometime.)

Back with intermittent reports, of course.

GT

It isn’t that I’m disorganized but I something came up with a friend last night so I left everything for this morning except for the sweet potato that I cooked yesterday. I got up at 5:30, broke up bread in a fog while the coffee perked and once this cup kicks in I’ll go make blueberry muffins for breakfast. Then I’ll make pie and maybe pumpkin bread if there’s enough left over and when those go in the oven I’ll chop onions and celery for stuffing and get that mixed up. After that I’ll get out of my way and let my partner deal with the turkey and get it ready for the oven. By then our friend who rents our little cabin will be up and he can peel potatoes. I have plenty of time to make cranberry sauce.

Damn. My partner just woke up early and I wanted to have hot muffins waiting for him. Oh well, back to the kitchen.
