Since this weekend was so nice, weather-wise, I finally got to use my excellent super-duper grill after a two month hiatus. Nothing fancy, but it got me hankering to relive the fun of last June, when the Teeming Millions descended on Casa Dave-Guy and shared barbecued ribs, beer, unnumbered side dishes and generally had a grand time.
I don’t think it’s too early to test the waters and see who’s interested in a RibFest Redux, do you? This doesn’t commit you to anything, but it will give me an idea of who’s up for it. An official thread will be forthcoming, probably around the end of April.
I have an amazing new grill, incredibly large, with a side firebox which will allow me to slow cook and smoke the meat to create genuine barbecue, and I have even enhanced my recipe for flavoring; keeping my superb homemade Jack Daniels sauce, but using a lip-tingling dry rub early in the process, as well as hardwood for authentic smoking. I have plenty of time between now and then to perfect my cooking technique, so this year’s ribs promise to be an experience not to be missed.
I’m thinking the weekend of June 26/27; the actual barbecue being Saturday afternoon, with a brunch at my house on Sunday for those who stay overnight.
So if you’re close enough to suburban NYC, or feel like traveling that weekend, make it known here. It promises to be loads of fun.
Dare I even attempt to get a ride from someone? Damn this seizure disorder… Hopefully I won’t have had anymore seizures by this time next year so I’ll actually be cleared to drive.
Being relatively new to SDMB and having participated and a great time in the 2004 valentines exchange…and lurked every day since I joined (from my work computer no less!)…where in New York are you? Keeping in mind you are talking to a Canadian - I don’t think it’s that far since we typically do McKean, PA in about four hours…however I am geographically challenged.
Chilling in that it puts things in perspective. God Bless.
I vaguely recall reading there were several kids there last year…If that’s the case again this year, my girls and I may come up (if they give me the thumbs up & I even have them on the weekend in question).
The one thing I definitely remember was the unanimous accolades from all who attended RF1 - it sounded to me that you’re a gracious host.

I was going over my summer schedule & was tossing around the idea of a (1st annual?) Metro NY Doper Pool Party @ my place (22 miles east of NYC & a stone’s throw from Cosmopolitan) on LI in late July. I figure if RF2 goes off the last week of June, that’ll give everyone who’s not on vacation at least 3 weeks to work the weight they put on at Casa Dave’s Ribfest. That way, donning a(n optional) bathing suit won’t be much of an issue to anyone who wants to come.
Cookies and Ribs! Did someone say COOKIES and RIBS!
Ohhhh we are there! We had a great time last year and I can wait to give to ya’all huge hugs.
Count Gorgon Heap, Heapet and me in!
If only I could talk you into having it the weekend before… Verrain and I will be in Boston for an AmberCon this year over that weekend, so we won’t be able to make it.
(Though, in some ways, I find it would be a mixed blessing… the first Fest-type thing I go to without Cristi there is going to be hard as hell.)
JohnBckWLD: I’d be willing to help you plan a MetroDoper Pool Party, if you’d like. Let’s start a different thread, though, so as not to futher hijack this one from the esteemed Dave-Man.
JohnBckWLD, of course kids are welcome. I mean, my own kids are gonna be there. Bring 'em on up, by all means.
don’t ask, everyone who is in the vicinity is welcome, furriners included.
Acryllic Vessel, it’s about time you spoke up, I was beginning to think you didn’t want to continue our torrid affair (with my wife’s cookies, ya buncha deves!).
maggy, new Dopers are welcome, of course. Casa Dave-Guy is in Rockland County, a suburb of New York City. It borders on New Jersey, so from parts of CanadiaLand, it ain’t too far. Montreal is closer to us than Buffalo is, actually.
TruePisces, unfortunately, the other weekends in June are kinda booked for us. I guess this means you and your hubby will just have to come on up on your own for custom-made ribs some other time.
For those of you who couldn’t make it at the last minute last year, you got some ‘splainin’ to do! But you’re definitely welcome to participate in RFII.
I believe Bob and I should be able to make this! And we’ll even be on the same plane this time. So at least if we get stuck in DC we’ll be stuck together.
