The Official New York RibFest Thread

Yes, the response has been very positive to a June RibFest at Casa Dave-Guy. So it’s going to happen. Here’s how it works:

I’ll be supplying the ribs and beer and soft drinks. Once I speak to my local butcher, I’ll post with information on what it will cost per adult person. A special group rate for parties of three or more adults will be forthcoming.

I’m figuring half a rack per adult. Some may want more, some less, so I figure it will even out.

You need to sign in here to make your impending presence known and to let us know what dish you’re bringing. We need to do this pot-luck style, or it simply won’t work, I’m afraid. I’ll be monitoring what folks are bringing, so we don’t have 50 bowls of cole slaw and no bread or dessert. Plan on your side dish feeding 6 - 8 people. And it’s okay to bring several bags of chips or a store-bought cake or a bucket of potato salad from the corner deli. But if you have a speciality (Sue Duhnym, you will bring baked beans!), then that would be both okey and dokey.

The date is Saturday, June 14, 2003, at Casa Dave-Guy in the beautiful suburbs of Rockland County, NY. Arrival time should be around noon, as some folks will be coming from a distance, and I also have to work that morning. I will be emailing directions to everyone who needs them, along with my home phone number.

Sign up, folks! It’s RibFest Time!

Count me in, and I’m working on Mrs. Teasdale.

Side dish TBA.

Ditto.

I’ll bring home-made brownies and a big hug for Sal and Amber, and I’ll need directions, please.

Your Excellency, present and accounted for. Promise Mrs. Teasdale we won’t throw fruit at her (if she promises not to sing).

Gorgon Heap, I assume the ineffably lovely Acrylic Vessel and the cuter than a button Heaplette will also be in attendance? I’ll mark you down for two adults.

tkeana, oooo! brownies! But you have to reserve a big hug for your host, too, or you won’t get in. Will you be flying solo? Directions will be forthcoming. You hoppin on the Thruway, or coming from another upstate?

Also, folks, I forgot to mention, Mrs. Dave-Guy will be making a batch of her chewy chocolate chip cookies. And if anyone has lawn chairs, it might be a good idea to bring them if you can. I can probably swipe three or four from my parents, but seating will be at a premium.

No, we did not forget the cookies.

Include at least two of the three Doorses, please.

Given that we live in Pennsylvania, the State Built on Snack Foods, I’m pretty sure I can offer, well, chips and pretzels.

Robin

MsRobyn, no! Tastycakes!!! Tastycakes!!!

Uhh… between tkeana and Mrs. Dave-Guy, I think we may have a good portion of dessert covered.

My wonderful wife, in addition to whipping up a couple batches of the aforementioned (and incredibly yummy) chewy chocolate chip cookies, she’s also going to make a key lime pie (dibs on a slice o’
that!) and malt ball pie, by special request of Halford the Human Eel[sup]TM[/sup].

MsRobyn, I’ll put you down for one adult and one kidlet, and you may bring Reg. Penna. Dept. of Whatever snak fud. We need our quotient of BBQ potato chips, after all.

I’ll be bringing Persephone. Whatta dish!

Oh … um … yes, we’ll be there and between the two of us we’ll come up with something and let you know what we’ll be bringing.

So far, we have:

DAVEW0071 – three adults, cookies and two pies
RTFirefly – one adult, maybe two, side dish TBA
Gorgon Heap – two adults, side dish TBA
tkeana – one adult (?), homemade brownies
MsRobyn – one adult so far, chips and “mun-cheez”
FriendBill – two adults, macaroni salad

I got inside information on FriendBill and his lovely lady, HelenWheels. Since he works with my wife, he passed the info on to her, and we thought it best that it be made known he’s bringing his macaroni salad, for future signees.

Now, Zappo, I have every faith that you’re going to be signing on very soon. A woid to the wise: Mrs. Dave-Guy says you don’t get in without you bring Vernor’s. Just so’s ya knows.

Curse these simulposts!

DAVEW0071 – three adults, cookies and two pies

Eutychus – two adults, side dish TBA

So FriendBill is gonna be there too, eh? Well that’s nice. Another teacher-folk to speak with my dear wife (as she should, with any luck, have graduated by then).

Also a word to the wise, Dave, if you intend to foot the bill for the beer, remember to multiply by three the consumption rates for myself and Biggirl.

Yeee-HAW!!! I do loves me a party!

I was planning on a whole keg, but I don’t know their capacity. If need be, we can make a beer run like we did last August. There are convenience stores aplenty, my friend.

yeah yeah yeah, I’ll be there. But I’m still honked off.

I volunteer to bring a keg or two. There are two discount beer distributors close by and it would be no problem to pick up one (or, like I said, two). The first will be a light beer for us point counters.

I believe my car will hold: Me, Houseman, Zoltarb, the distaff Alex Keaton and beerchick. Oh yeah, and a keg or two.

Alright It’s 10 days before my birthday. No matter what happens I WILL BE THERE. I’ll bring some desertt thing but my cooking skills are horrible so it won’t be hoime made unless I make Jello

MannyL, that’s excellent. Glad you’ll be there. And a store-bought dessert thing is just fine.

Biggirl, won’t carting a keg or two from Brooklyn all the way to Casa Dave-Guy result in a whole lotta foam? I was gonna get a keg Friday evening and let it settle before icing it Saturday morning. Your thoughts? I mean, if you wanna supply the beer, and can get it on the cheap, then hey. You go, girl. But I wonder about whether we’re gonna drink it or ski on it.

Drink it, ski on it, paint foam bikinis on your naked body with it-- whatever floats your boat!

I believe beerchick will be bringing some low point goodies. I’m sure she’ll come around to tell y’all about it.
I can bring it beforehand, you know. Unless you just don’t want me and Houseman up there a second before absolutely neccessary. It’s all right if that’s how you feel about it. We understand. [sub]:::sniff:::[/sub]

No no no. By all means, bring the beer. And bring it Friday night, or early Saturday, if you want. I just thought I’d save you a trip.
