Over 90% of people with a COVID diagnosis that take HCQ will recover in about 3 weeks. So will 90% of the people that combat it by drinking Coke. Or beer. Or taking aspirin. Because it’s a virus that self-resolves unless it kills you.
No properly regressed study has shown any beneficial effect. Some of the raw data from these studies seems to show a beneficial effect.
The raw data from other studies shows that it kills lots of patients that would otherwise survive. Both of the results come about because raw data is worthless unless you correct for dozens of other factors that effect the outcome.
It’s a variation on a common scam, promoting an inexpensive and readily available, yet uncommon -substance as a miracle cure. And I’m tired of this being politicized. I’m passionate about this not because of my politics, but because my fiancé and I fell for a cancer cure scam promoted by a legitimate medical doctor back in 2005. Then I spent the next five years learning to identify these scams and trying to convince people not to throw away their life savings. And this one is a classic.
And then I found that oncologist that scammed me in 2005 was pushing Hydroxychloroquine as a COVID cure on Fox News.
Look, people, I-AM-WABI-SABI is not interested in evidence, or facts, or the well-being and health of his/her fellow citizens.
First of all, he/she does not care if his/her refusal to mask kills people. Accept that. Educating this person about the efficacy of masks will not change the situation.
Second, this person is here only to pick fights. Seriously. You know this. It’s all a waste of time.
He/she is just like those dipshits who walk around openly carrying a gun (where that’s permitted). They’ll go to, say, Lowe’s, openly packing a gun, just to get a reaction from people.
Mask, gun, whatever. All they’re doing is provoking people and shouting “yeah, what are you gonna do about it?” at the top of their lungs.
Our governor has just declared a mask mandate over the state. In past 24 hours I’ve seen (IRL and people on FB in my city) masks that say “Make America Great Again”, “This Mask Is As Useless As Our Governor”, “SOCIALism DISTANCING”, “Freedom doesn’t look like this”, “Trump 2020, F**K Evers” (Evers is the gov).
People are, very correctly explaining that we know you think it’s super funny that you’re putting messages on your mask to insult the dems…but you’re wearing your masks and that’s really all that matters to us.
When I saw the maga mask a few days ago I mentioned to someone that’s a lot more in your face than a hat (I was a few feet from her), but at least she’s wearing it, so, whatever.
I’m thinking that would be a good starting point. How about “When you get together with friends, there may be an uninvited guest.” Show a bunch of folks at the bar and the Grim Reaper is sitting at their table. Maybe replace his iconic hourglass with a big gray and red Covid particle. I’m no artist but maybe one of you is.
Back in March or whenever it was, on this message board when I and other people were arguing that masks could indeed help, in spite of what was being spread around at the time by people who should have known better, multiple people insisted that no one ever coughs or sneezes directly in your face. So I suspect it would be dismissed as something that simply never happens like that. (I realize the poster is about coughing or sneezing on food – not in a person’s face. Same response probably applies though.)
Changing the mind of a true believer is seldom possible, be it getting the true believer to accept that there is no god, or getting the true believer to accept that the world is not flat, or getting the true believer to accept that there is a moral responsibility to wear a mask.
Of course what the true believer cannot accept is that the by by not accepting that there is a moral responsibility to wear a mask, the true believer proves that there is no god.
