Nah, Hastings is just as bad as Blockbuster. I never ever go to either one, just Hollywood Video or the local rental place Alphaville (if I want something foreign).
OOh, I get to share my Blockbuster anecdote of the day.
So I went today, and rented 2 movies, and bought “Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back” from the Previously viewed movies section. It was marked $4.99. So I go to pay, and the countergirl tells me I have a $9.00 balance. Not surprising. I never get out of there without a late fee of some sort. I agree to pay, even though I didn’t remember renting the movie she quoted. She rings in the $4.99 movie. Looking at the computer, she starts off on a rant about how they’re trying to overcharge me, almost $10! She manually credits me for the difference. Cool, I think. So she totals everything up, and it comes to $13. I realize what she’d done, but was waiting to see if she would.
She rips the receipt off the printer, tells me to have a good day, and as she hands me my bag, a wave of common sense hits her…she’d taken off my late fee. They weren’t overcharging me…she was looking at the subtotal value rather than the item value. I tried to pay anyways, because I’m a fair person, but she insisted that I was all set.
Yeah baby. I got the hookup at Blockbuster.
Reminds me very much of the writing of John Kennedy Toole. Twas a comical story, btw.
