The Proposition

I was wondering if anyone had any thoughts on this film, an ‘Australian Western’ just out at cinemas (in the UK at least). I saw it on Monday, and took to it the highest expectations possible, as Nick Cave had written both the screenplay and soundtrack. I think this led me to be too critical of both these elements, as my girlfriend was pleasantly surprised having come to it with no great fanship of cowboy films.

It certainly has enough grit (and more than enough flies…) to create a dirty realism, which is only sometimes undermined by the occasionally flowery language put into the mouths of otherwise grizzled outlaws. But to me, the soundtrack is mostly great, and even Ray Winstone fails to fail the film too badly.

Anyone else?
