The Pumpkin Pie is in the Oven - Repeat - The Pumpkin Pie is in the Oven

The preparations for Thanksgiving have begun!

Got up early and have the pumpkin pie made and in the oven; Mrs Piper has made the salad and sliced the Brussels sprouts. Now just having some breakfast.

Piper Cub is playing on the floor, and Piper Dad will be joining us for supper.

Hope all Canadian Dopers have a good Thanksgiving.

Happy Thanksgiving to CanaDopers!

And YAY for pumpkin pie!

Happy Thankgiving!

I was thrown for a second, though - I thought “Dang, that’s starting early!” :smack:

I need lots of lead time.

I am officially jealous of Canada now. Pumkin pie is my favorite pie and I want some now. May need to stop on the way home and get some.

Best of both worlds here – my wife is Canadian, so we celebrate T-giving twice. Had a big turkey dinner with some Canadian friends on Saturday night (the stuffing was incredible!), and now can look forward to “second Thanksgiving” next month.

We had ours yesterday - my brother-in-law might be (well, okay, IS) a crazy conspiracy theorist, but damn, can that boy bake a pie! We had apple pie made from local apples that were perfect for pie (just the right amount of tartness), and a pumpkin pie to die for. I had my leftover turkey bun for lunch today.

I’m thankful the weather turned nice again. It’ll snow by Halloween because it always does, but for now, I’ve been wearing shirtsleeves outside for the last couple of weeks, and I’ll take it.

We skipped the pumpkin pie because my birthday was on Saturday and we got me my favorite - Dairy Queen ice cream cake. But I get turkey to take home!

Me, too! Even though some coworkers were commenting on it this morning, I still thought, “Man! That pie’s gonna be ripe by November…” :smack:

Happy… Thanks… Giving! From W…K…R…P!

I am pleased to report that the pumpkin pie is out of the oven. [burp]

“The turkeys are falling like sacks of wet cement! Oh, the humanity!”

I bought myself a big-ass pumpkin a few weeks ago, and I’ve been making pumpkin soup, pumpkin pie, pumpkin couscous and roasted pumpkin seeds with it since then. It’s really good and amazingly unexpensive, but now I still have two big pieces of pumpkin in my refrigerator and they’re starting to get mouldy. I’ll probably finish them this week by making pasta filled with pumpkin quiche mix.

I think next time I’ll buy smaller pumpkins; they’re on sale right now and they last longer than already-opened pumpkins.

I’m going to buy some pumpkins soon, too - we’re hosting a Halloween party this year, and I’d like some jacko-lanterns to decorate with. I love pumpkins - I love everything about them. I’d have pumpkins in my house all the time if I could.

I’m confused. I thought your Thanksgiving something like the third week of October. I take it that the friend who was e-mailing about it last year on the 23rd was just really late to mention it, then. Is it always the same day as Columbus Day in the US?

it’s always the second Monday in October - is that the same as Columbus Day? we don’t have that.

I couldn’t go spend Thanksgiving with my family due to work and issues with my back that make it incompatible with the fold-out couch at the cottage, so I stayed home. Yesterday I cooked a big meal with roasted chicken, pureed squash, etc., and had some friends over for a gays-and-strays Thanksgiving dinner.

It sounds fun, but everyone knows the most important question is: Did you have pumpkin pie??

When do you celebrate “Black Friday?” Today?

Like Columbus Day, I think that’s a purely American concept.

We do have Boxing Day sales, however.

Yeah, I think Boxing Day (the day after Christmas) is the closest we have to Black Friday. In spite of my hatred of crowds, somehow I always end up in a mall on December 26th. I do like to be reminded of Black Friday here, though - I remember one year when Black Friday took the Interac system down across Canada, too.
