The 'Put it Back on the Menu, Dammit' thread
Yes! I think they called it a mega food bar. You could make awesome salads and the one in my town also had a potato bar, pasta bar, and taco bar.
That’s exactly what I’m thinking off.

Dairy Queen doesn’t have peanut butter milkshakes anymore. They are dead to me.

I see Applebee’s did this, too. I wonder if it’s related to allergy concerns? (It can’t really be that no one else buys peanut butter milkshakes, can it? They’re awesome.)

Our local Sonic burned down last year, and now they don’t off the Oily-Rags-Stored-Next-To-Gasoline burger. Dang it.

But seriously, Trader Joe’s is famous for discontinuing items all the time. They had this great ginger ale a few years ago, but sadly it’s long gone. Back in the 90s, I loved their eggplant/tomato pasta sauce. It was expensive but delicious, and of course it disappeared from the shelves. Such a shame.

Back in the early 90s, for about 5.3 seconds, either Burger King or McDonald’s offered sweet pickle slices on their burgers. I loved them.

My Salsa Autentica is in peril! :frowning:

I still miss the frozen escargots (in shell) they had back in the '80s. Dang, those were good! Inexpensive, too.

I hate to show my age like this, but back before the dawn of time DQ used to serve Mister Mistee Floats. A Mister Mistee was just a flavored slush. They turned it into a “float” by adding soft serve ice cream to it.

Sonic’s creamslushes are similar, but the DQ float didn’t have the ice cream mixed in. It was just along the inside of the cup. Much better that way.

I was also going to mention Wendy’s salad bar, but I was beaten to it!

Whew, seem to have uncorked a wellspring here. Sure are a lot of favorites gone.

McDonald’s - On again, off again, Spicy McChicken on the $1 menu
For the moment, it’s still a regular menu item here in Texas (or at least the Houston area), but given how little attention corporate seems to pay to it, guess it’s only a matter of time before it gets the axe, at which point Wendys’ 99 cent chicken whatever sandwich will probably disappear too.

While clucking about that, someone else mentioned Wendys’ Frescata sandwiches. Kinda liked the chicken salad one and thus was highly annoyed when they dropped the whole line.
More recently, I really liked their Frescata sandwiches, particularly the roast turkey with pesto.
I liked those, too, but they seemed to have discontinued those, too. I think they were just Tim Horton sandwiches on a different bun, though.

I remember the Wendy’s salad bar, too. Well, I remember the nachos you could get at it.

Wendy’s discontinued their chicken strips, which pisses me off to no end.

I lived off Taco Bell in high school in college! Now it’s only a 2 or 3 times a year event.

I wish they’d bring back Chili Cheese Burritos. Those were damned tasty. They also had something else called a Steak Burrito Supreme that had little chunks of tater tots in it. Food of the gods I tell you.
Hell Yeah! I loved me a chili cheese burrito or 3! I moved away for a while, and the TB near my new city didn’t do the CCB. Now that I’m back in SF, I have no Taco Bell really close, so I can’t check to see if they have them.

I like that the McDonalds here all serve the breakfast bagels. NONE of them in Visalia had them. Steak egg and cheese bagel FTW!

Look around; you ought to be able to find horchata elsewhere. I’ve seen it at several authentic (i.e. Mexican-owned) order-at-the-counter-type Mexican restaurants.
Hell, if NY is at all like SF, every burrito dive should have a big 5-gallon jar of fresh Horchata on the counter…
Popeye’s Fried Chicken used to have awesome onion rings. The twits took them off the menu and now I don’t go to Popeye’s anymore.
Try a different Popeye’s, maybe. The one near me has them - not bad, IMHO.

Joe

Oh, and another thing - Taco Bell’s old breakfast menu. About a year ago, they introduced a major overhaul to the breakfast menu. I can find no mention of it on the Taco Bell site, so maybe it’s discontinued. But they got rid of the old, simple steak and egg burritos and tacos. God, they were good… Nice green sauce, home-fry-style taters. Sigh…
Speaking of McDonalds whatever happened to the McDLT? That was pretty tasty even if the separate sides were a bit unnecesary.
I tried to link to McDLT, and it redirected me to Big 'n Tasty!. But there’s some info there…

Whozawhazzawa?

Taco Bell serves breakfast??

I miss Wendy’s Big Bacon Classic. :frowning:
What made this different than just a regular bacon cheeseburger? And I don’t mean the baconator, I mean just adding bacon to say the classic double or something (which they will be happy to do if you just ask)?
Again with the Taco Bell- in the late 80s/early 90s they had a bacon cheeseburger burrito. I don’t like cheeseburgers, but man I loved that burrito. Somebody should start a campaign, it was that good.
1. Mid 90s, about 1994-1996ish when I was living in HI.

 2. Oh, thank GOD! Man, every now and again I bring up the BC burrito and people look at me like I’ve grown two heads. I loved that thing - LOVED!

Regarding Wendy’s bacon classic, I can still get that if I order it at the drive through, at least for now - I suspect it’ll become one of those “learned wisdom” things like the late, lamented Subway v-cut.
Not to mention that sweet sauce they used to have for their Beef 'n Cheddars… don’t think I’ve had it in years.
Ask for the red ranch sauce, I get it in extra cups with my Beef 'n Cheddars all the time.

And as for the KFC boneless chicken wings? IIRC, most are offering Popcorn Chicken all the time now, ask them if they’ll dip it in the BBQ sauce for regular wings, most will do it with no problem, and it’s just as good IMHO.

I too miss the Chicken Caesar Pitas from Wendy’s, those we sooo good!

A couple of 'em:

From Taco Hell: I miss the old style chicken burritos, dammit. Where the meat was a mix of white and dark meat, and had been cooked in sauce.

I also miss the old tostadas. Sure I can make 'em myself, at home, but that’s not the point. When I’m on a Taco Hell run I want things without effort.

From TGI Friday’s: I really, really miss their deep fried mushrooms. They were in a tempura-like batter, not the heavy batter one usually finds with deep friend mushrooms, and they were food of the Gods.
