QE II is about to celebrate her platinum jubilee, for having been on the Throne for 70 years. So souvenir sales are all going to be huge. Except, maybe those which are touting her “platinum jubbly”.
Though, who knows, they may become keepsakes.

So they’ve already done diamond, right? What do they call it if she makes it to 75 years? Diamond again? Double diamond?
Charles’ Tears
Well, the Queen Mum made it to 101, so it could happen.
I’m about 9 months younger than Charles, and I’ll bet he makes it to a lot older than I will. He’s got really good genes (for longevity, anyway).
… not to mention the best doctors to deal immediately with any hiccup and priority transportation complete with police escort to one of the best hospitals and surgery practically on demand.
Meanwhile, old Mrs Smith down the road has been waiting 4 years for a hip replacement …
(I am not a republican - in the UK sense).
I’m sure you’d prefer the American system.
No - just highlighting some of the inequalities in the so-called ‘universal health care’ that is the modern NHS. But this is not the thread for that conversation - not even the ‘right country’
In a way I should apologise but the emasculation of the NHS really gets to me and the reply above was dashed off without thinking… so, sorry for derailing.
ETA: I am well aware none of the Royal Family use the NHS but I should stop - hole is getting too deep now.
Looking at the picture of her on that plate, the spelling is the least of its issues… I couldn’t have told you if that was supposed to be David Attenborough or the queen- or Bob from down the pub in a wig, for that matter.
I could see myself buying for the novelty (even though I otherwise never buy this crap), if the price was cheap enough. But I don’t see any link to order it, nor did I find it by googling “platinum jubbly,” as it’s all articles. I would have expected this type of story to only come out once the sale was live.
Here is hoping that they have another batch ready for the 75th university. I wonder if anyone even planned for that. When I toured distilleries in Scotland they told me they had barrels that were made at her crowning in anticipation for a diamond jubilee.
The way I understood the report is the company mentioned picked up the merchandise lot, as rejects from whoever had ordered it in the first place, and is seeking in turn to sell it as lots to retailers, not to the general public.
The global supply chain, it’s a brilliant thing, isn’t it.
For sure we now know that whoever at the Chinese manufacturer was himself using an unlicensed knockoff spellchecker.
Could be worse, the picture could have wound up being that of a second-tier X-Men character.
Although, having made the international news, they may want to jack the price way up and offer it on their website.
This looks like the link to the wholesale clearance site (if you want 10,000+ - it even misspells “lovely” to fit in with the merchandise):
And this looks like a link to individual items, at a higher price than I want to pay: https://changzhouintmerchandise.com/
