The Rainbow Connection

Willie Nelson just did a remake of Rainbow Connection. They play it on the Americana (old country, outlaw, Texas artists) station I listen to. Of course my favorite song from this cd is I’m My Own Grandpa.

Did anybody else catch The Daily Show on 6/4/01? The lead story was about the German company that bought the Muppets last year and are now trying to sell them (at a big loss)? Jon Stewart’s joke was that the German company had trouble integrating the Muppets into their other lines. Cut to the scene in The Muppet Movie where Kermit is sing “Rainbow Connection” except now it’s dubbed in a harsh German accent and Kermit is wearing one of those spikey war helmets and pictures of tanks are superimposed over the movie. LOL! In fact, Jon took a few minutes to recover and the spot made the “Moment of Zen”. Hilarious!

BTW, I’m a big Muppets fan, but this was funny.

I did see that bit on The Daily Show, and I almost fell out of my chair laughing.

And JayJay…its not just you. Hell, I actually cried when Jim Henson died. I just kept thinking to myself…Kermit the frog is dead…It just didnt seem right.

And since there seem to be a lot of muppet fans…I am going to shamelessly promote this thread

Yeah, I knew about that thread, but this thread’s about the song.

For those that don’t know, The Muppet Movie was just (finally!) released on DVD a week or two ago. It’s been one of my favourite films for years, since my friend Jen used to use it as an anti-depressant for me in college. When I was depressed, we’d watch her beatup tape of TMM, and I’d feel better.

Although I’m deathly afraid of frogs, Kermit is my hero. And Anniz is my Miss Piggy.

I have an awesome punk cover of this song … I love it! I am kind of partial to punk covers (ask me about my first dance at my wedding … smile ) but this one is quite good!

That said, my wife finds this song “blasphemous” and “sick and wrong”.

Oh well … that is why I bought headphones I suppose !

My husband the punk nut has recently downloaded a punk cover of “The Rainbow Connection” that simply breaks my heart. Let’s see now …

A sweet, innocent little frog singing aobut his dreams and how to fulfil them, singing of hope, love, life, imagination …

Screaming young punks howling about the same themes as their guitars yowl along, and the drums pound away …

Oh well, at least whatever punk band it is, can actually sing (unlike some I’ve heard)

I tried to explain to him that some things should be kept sacred, but he doesn’t agree! In any case, that song (Kermit’s version, NOT the other) almost always brings tears to my eyes.

{{{Brunetter}}}

Don’t worry, Brunetter…I won’t let the big, bad Me First and the Gimmee Gimmees hurt you.

But I have so many wonderful punk covers … you know you love them … you long for their hard edges and energy !!

I know you do …

I’m a pig, a pig, yeeee, thanks.
[sub]Okay, I can be your pig, if that’s what you want.[/sub]

Because It’s Not Easy Being Green…?

(By the way, Montfort already has the coolest sig on the board. Congrats from another teaming million out here to the both of you. You, uh, might want to watch those pig remarks, though… )

Ahhh… such a sweet, simple song. You know, my Dad once swore off a local radio station because of the Rainbow Connection. They started playing the song, and he turned the radio up to listen to it, and then they cut it off midway to play something else. He swore, turned the radio off, and insisted we listen to a different station for MONTHS!

My Dad likes his Muppets.

Is it just me, or is that the eeriest simulpost coincindence you have EVER seen?

[sub]Assuming of course that Lazarus and Brunetter aren’t married and sitting side-by-side on his and her computers while reading the SDMB.[/sub]

The voice might be one and the same,

I’ve heard it too many times to ignore it,
it’s something that I’m s’posed to be,

Someday we’ll find it…

(BTW, Montfort- what was Anniz’ reaction upon seeing the Swedish Chef?)

No, you’re not a pig. You’re the Miss Piggy to my Kermit.

Thanks Dijon Warlock.

And, John, most Swedes find the Swedish Chef kind of flattering (since there are no Danish Chefs, or Norwegian Chefs) but completely off-the-mark in his characterization of Swedish speaking.

I, on the other hand, was nearly crying with laughter during the Chef’s “the film is rooling” line; because it is on the mark.

You mean real Swedes don’t say, “Bork, bork, bork!” ??

I love him, his very funny,
but to me he doesn’t sound like his speaking Swedish,
more singing.

Yes, he does sound Swedish.
Swedes are the ones who don’t sound Swedish. They’ve more of a Latvian-hillbilly twang to their speech which I find endearing.

But Swedish tits really do look like Swedish tits, thankfully.

And they feel like Swedish tits, too.
