I went to the Rainbow Gathering in California in 1984. Still have many pleasant memories.
Rainbow is MUCH more than a bunch of doped up hippies…
I typically attend the southern illinois gathering in the fall…usually in the shawnee national forest.

Here’s a long post about the trip Agent Foxtrot and I took to Rainbow Gathering 2005 in West Virginia. It was amazing and wonderful and I’d love to go this coming year!

Why is the National Forest Service upset with them? Trampling?
I first heard of them years ago when a friend of mine was driving up the mountain toward Silver City. He saw this couple pushing a baby carriage and offered them a ride. The couple asked him if he’d like to join them at church and purely out of curiosity, he accepted their invitation. They pulled over, walked off the road a ways, sat down, and the guy whipped out a big ol’ doobie and fired it up.
He said, “This is church!”
I like 'em. They’re basically peaceful and harmless and kind.

The had a gathering in NH and there was a bunch of clean up required after they left. But beyond that they seemed nice and fairly harmless. Different squids for different kids, it’s all part of the tapestry of life.
